Here in Tomball in the Houston Texas area todays prediction is "feels like temps" today is going to hit 110-112 in the shade according to the Channel 11 weather girl.   Add in our high humidy and it is definately a good day to work on my to do list of indoor duties.   Anybody in this area out riding today is gonna have a hard time convincing me they are enjoying their ride.

I wouldn't.  I have never made any sense of what the "feels like" temp really means.  When people ask me about riding in the heat I tell them it is very hot when sitting in traffic, but when rolling down the road it doesn't feel so bad.

The feels like temp is equivalent to the winter time windchill factor…except it’s HOT…I call it tropical.

90 degrees and 60% humidity is not uncommon here on the Jersey Shore at times.

If you’ve never experienced it on you bike or any other way, get in your car with your helmet on, no a/c turn on the heat open all the windows and have hairdryers on high blowing directly on your face chest, legs…everywhere plus having the sun beating down on you as well. I’ve never experienced Texas heat but have with south Florida summer heat.

...

I have some understanding of how the "experts" arrive at the feels like number.  I live in east Kansas, high humidity with the wind, or breeze, almost always blowing.  My perspective is this is not really relevant for us as we seldom experience the conditions that they are modelling.

A point of my post was that we cannot, or should not, claim we can accurately determine what are someone else's parameters for comfort or enjoyment.

I'm a motorcyclist.  I very seldom run the air conditioner in my cage.  When I do it is to please my wife.  She's a good girl but she has no balls.

My wife and I crossed Kansas returning from InZane in Colorado when the actual temperature was 115 F.  I was having a relatively good ride.  She was crying.  We have different value boundaries.  I also ride with no windscreen.  That makes some difference.

Ok.

I’m not an A/c user either in the car or van when I’m alone, unless it’s raining or not nice out. If I or we are going somewhere and we’re dressed for an occasion then yes, I’ll have the a/c on.

Willow....I know you are a tough hombre but I would take 110 in a low humity area over 95 in a high humidity area.   I would find it hard to believe that anyone would drive around in August in the Houston area with the windows down.....by choice.

LOL!  In fairness I don't live in Houston.  I'm not that tough but I do have boundaries differing from some.   Wink

Just spoke with Ryan- he’s still in Houston working in Power Plant - says conditions are horrible, ready for job to end. One cool thing the company did was hire a chef to keep the crew nourished

For the best part of July and a week into August we have had 10 degrees plus above normal temps.  Plus, the last 3 weeks we have had smoke, unhealthy rated smoke.  Not good conditions to go for rides.  So non have happened.  For the last 48 hours the smoke as gone and temps are back to normal, ie  mid 40's in the morning and mid 80's in the afternoon.  A ride should happen later this morning, though monitoring the air quality web site.

This is the time of the year where many of us who taunt ya'll with tales of our January and February short sleeve rides are suspiciously quiet...

 Grin Grin Grin

We'll be visiting Houston sometime in the next month or so or whenever it cool's down a bit. Have to deliver our deceased eldest son's 07' Honda Ridgeline to our grandson as his 1st. vehicle. Poor GKids didn't get to come to cooler Indiana this summer due to activities such softball etc.
