if you have been to my house..  we are downhill of the road, and at the bottom of a big hill
The road dog legs past my driveway

When we had the storms that dumped an inch an hour we had water in the garage and some seeped into the basement

Found that a big cause was a clogged gutter downspout and that three of my 4" pipes that carry water from the drains and downspouts were clogged with tree roots  The down spouts are now clear but

The man with the snake and camera showed clogs at the 51' mark the 60' mark and the downspout drain blocked at 82' mark.

He is returning on friday with the jetting machine (high power hose with blades) to get them all clear

IN the meantime I dug an 18" deep x 15" wide by 20' trench to expose the 3 pipes at around the 45' mark in my side yard just  in case I need to open them and dump a cubic yard of gravel for a dry well.

There is poison ivy from around the 50' mark to the end of my back yard  yes I got some on me already
That is why I am paying to have the lines jetted out. During the early winter I will continue the dig
when the ivy dies back

Home ownership is fun   AND I need a new roof it is over 25 yrs old

But I will be riding the Valk up to Hudson Mass on Sat am to sit with my brother while he drives a Sherman Tank   That should be a great trip

Once the roots are cut away, is there any recommended way to prevent their regrowth or are sections of the piping in need of total replacement?

I've had the plumbers with camera at my house too.  (main sewer line)
It's great knowing exactly how many feet to the clog(s), and then directing the cutter head snake/router right to that clog and blasting it away.  Much better and quicker than the hit and miss before cameras.

Even better is that my plumber is a friend and neighbor.

MY Dad did a lot of surveying (pipeline) when I was growing up in Oklahoma.  He would take a product called Ivey Immune early in the spring.  Three or four pills that would keep the poison ivy from bothering him.  I was giving those pills when I worked for the same company during summer break from college.  I only got two of the pills taken when I got in the middle of a poison ivy patch.  You would believe the size of my left forearm swelled up to.  Yeah, it was bad.  But only lasted two weeks.  Thankfully there is no poison ivy where I live now.

We have a friend who has what he calls "Mutant Poison Ivy" - can't be killed, and it's really bad on people too. I stay away from it....

Have your brother drive the tank down and just blow out the roots with the Sherman Tank. A good homeowner weekend project for you guys.

Amazing those guys can’t clear whole pastures of the poison stuff and not have a single issue.

Lines all jetted out, leaders re-attached by me

Brother Mike had a blast driving that Sherman Tank for a bit over 20 minutes

I was standing in the top hatch but they removed the 50 cal

Damaged the crystal on my phone getting out of the tank so will not be able to see the movies until fixed next week  Took 3 hrs to get there and almost 5 getting back home

The museum has several buildings housing tanks, planes, cars and it was worth the trip from anywhere

In case anyone has ever wondered *how much rain did we rally get* in a heavy storm this will give you a good idea.

For residential and commercial purposes using a 40x70 roof and a storm that drops 1” of rain, over 1,700 gallons of water will be displaced.

On an acre that’s over 27,000 gallons.

glad u got your pipes cleared, no pun intended.

homeownership never ends it seems.  had HUGE 150 year old burr oak tree come down last year, this year 33 year old crabapple tree and storage shed both in HIGH 80+ mph brief stint of winds.  Not replaced the storage shed yet have it ready to assemble but weekends, besides this weekend, has been too hot and muggy to be outside for us.   Better get it put up for winter since my already too full garage is packed in tight.

retirement cannot come soon enough, too bad retirement is not age 55.  LOL

You think you're busy now? Just wait until you finally "retire"  Grin Grin !! You will wonder "how did I ever accomplish all that work while I was still working at a job ?"  cooldude cooldude

There are ENDLESS jobs / chores to do. Just have to budget time and money to do them - definately on a priority basis. What you can accomplish "outside in the weather" also factors in...

as I age,  the OUTSIDE in the weather certainly comes into play.  I cannot stand 85 degree heat anymore here in WI since is also always humid out.  Just ZAPS my energy in 30-45 minutes.  Plus,  am hoping 2025 will be a turning year for me since I also cannot stand nor walk for more than 1 hour at a time due to both hips bone on bone painful to even walk or stand 1 hour, that is ticking me off past 2-3 years now.  I sure  hope both surgeries October and December go well and can bend over and put my pants/socks/shoes on with NO agonizing pain and to also 2025 ride cycles pain free.

I had to really squeeze down inside the hatch to take this pic of Mike driving the tank

Amazing experience

recommend it to anyone, but being under 6' helps

The tank is getting a few gallons of gas in the bottom pic  I wanted to head off the jokes about electric tanks from Jess  It gets .8 mpg
