I was looking at posts on the Goldwing Forum and saw one about a nice place to say in the Robbinsville, NC area.

We don't usually spend more than a day at a specific spot (except for trips to Nova Scotia and once in West Virginia) but his place seemed like a very nice place to stop for a few nights and just enjoy the area with day rides maybe like 150 miles or so.

So, here is the information and the questions.

Was looking at the post's on the Goldwing Forum and saw Fred's about the "Tapoco Lodge" in Robbinsville, SC. I have a couple of trips planned for the fall and our (wife and I) normal thing today is 250 miles a day (less if we stop for a sight) and we try and stop at nice places to stay with some nice places to eat nearby.

The Tapoco Lodge looks like a nice place for a few days stay and its within a day of where we live. Ride up day one, stay three nights, return home day four.

But, while I have been on those roads before, I sort of forget which is which and what. I have been on the Tail of the Dragon several times and, well don't need to do it again. So trip planning while stopped was/is an issue. I don't really want to re-travel the same roads.

So, my question is, does anyone have any recommendations about 150 mile or so days trips in the area of the Lodge. Maybe some places to stop for lunch or just sightseeing.

Yes the Cherohala Skyway is a place that would be ok.  But the last time we were there, the view of the surrounding area was pretty well blocked unless you stopped at one of the overlooks.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Also looks like the rooms/cabins are going fast at the "Tapoco Lodge".

Cool place recommended, we go every year to hang on the front yard: good food, excellent scenery, plenty of fine roads.
HWY 28 very nice. A horse joined us on the road to Yellow Bird  coolsmiley
