We took a short day ride on Wednesday.   Weather was almost perfect.  It was a 2 hour plus ride but only put together the videos from the "dash" cam for the parts in the National Forest.

From the link below:

Traveling North on Tyger River Rd and Maybinton Park Rd in Sumter National Forest.  Somewhere off Maybington Rd is where Howard Brewington (from Newberry, SC) discovered a Comet.  Howard was a Comet Hunter.  His was the first discovery from SC.  (Comet C/1989 W1  Aarseth/Brewington) November 16, 1989.   The discovery was shared with Knut Aarseth, Norway.

Thanks.  Whitmire was just about 6 miles north west of our route through Sumter National Forest.

Thanks Jim.   cooldude

My days of hauling a passenger are over.

My old/last passenger was only 120lbs or so, but it wasn't the weight, it was the noise.   Grin

Thanks for sharing.  Looks like a nice place to ride.  We also took a weekday trip last week but it wasn't as scenic as yours.  We left Tulsa on 8/21 and landed in Kansas City.  Went to a couple museums the following day then came home on 8/23.  The museums were pretty good, if anyone is in the area you might look them up.

National World War I Museum and Memorial
We only did the general admission to the WW1 museum and to be honest we were both tired of walking when we left.  So that was enough for us without the optional upgrade pass's.

Arabia Steamboat Museum
The Arabia Steamboat museum was not as big but the history of the lost steamboat in 1856 on the Missouri River to recovering it and it's cargo was pretty amazing.  I'd go again if in the area as I know I overlooked a lot.

Question on your dash cam setup.  Is that a VSYSTO dash cam?  If so how do you like it? And is the image quality better when you play it directly on your pc over what Youtube is?  I notice some areas that look washed out but not sure if that's a dirty lens or Youtube or just the image quality.
I have a different brand on the Electra Glide but it has several issues and wasn't intended for a bike so not water proof.  So I'm looking to replace but don't want to spend $500.

Yes I believe it is but will check to verify (it is just checked) .

Here is link to SSNCOB's post on the gl1800 Riders forum which is why I purchased the camera.

https://www.gl1800riders.com/threads/bike-camera-i-can-recommend.480287/

What I don't have at the moment is an easy way to compare the cameras operation to other devices I have used and still use.

My goto camera is a Contour HD 1040P camera.  While the cameras can still be purchased from Ebay, the company went out of business (COVID I think).

I use to leave the Contour on all the time on my ST1300.  It was mounted under the nose of the bike. But it would only recored for about 45 minutes or so total.   But...

Here are some comparative videos.  Some from a few years ago and some recent.

The first video is from April 2023 as we rode down the BRP.  It is a combined video of Front and Rear Cameras from the VSYSTO dash cam.

https://youtu.be/HmoU6kq6nQA?si=C_Vu1V6Gj0DyOYku

Video from the a newer Contour Mounted on my Goldwing's windscreen.  1080P

https://youtu.be/vsJHFDD7E_w?si=KZHKe_W7LDyXD7tj

Another video from Contour on wing.  1080P

https://youtu.be/soZZY7ZetEM?si=T5H8CxLabDS7hc5H

And this video is from 2015 (more or less). Again from the Contour 1080P camera mounted under the nose of the wing (before) I changed the location to the windscreen so I could control it easier.

https://youtu.be/KdepnpJnxhk?si=ycu9MJMD6U5_nUgx

I show you all these because it is important to see what happens with age and cameras.  The first video's linked above using a "Contour" camera were made with a Contour camera purchased about 2020.  The last video linked above was done with a older Contour HD 1080P and I think it's a better image.

There is a difference over the years with product quality,  I still have the older camera.

I also purchased, from Ebay, a Contour 4K camera (had a Contour camera fall off the bike when we crossed a rough railroad track in AL a few years ago.  But, you cannot setup the 4K cameras the same way you did the older 1080P cameras.

Ok, last video I will link.   Traveling up Bear Tooth Mountain June 15, 2015.

https://youtu.be/2OzpGXuXOqI?si=aC0HCGwfpc6qhnwj

I find the Bear Tooth video to be almost as good as being there in person.  And it's the oldest of my video Cameras (well now, it was much newer then).

Thanks for all the video comparisons.  I agree the last appears to be the sharpest.  A spot I found in that video I thought funny at about 1:48,  a passenger riding along standing up through the sun roof enjoying the scenery.  Face is kinda blurry and cant read the plate but I think that's pretty common for a 1080 cam,  it has been on the ones I've had anyway.

I did not remember that part of the video.  Thanks for bringing it back up.  Strange things.....

Went back and looked at the original video and still could not blow it up enough to see the tag but it looked like there was an "H" on the front grill.

The camera did two videos.  We did not stop on the climb up Bear Tooth.  One video was about 38 minutes long.  The other was only 6 minutes long.

I will do some looking at my cameras and see if I can figure out why the quality changed.
