First post after reading many pre-purchase and many after purchase posts.

To get to the point, I replaced my left rear wheel bearing today. Once I removed the old one I immediately noticed the hole between the bearing and the spacer was worn in an oblong shape. I just got the bike so who knows how long the bearing has been bad, the bike wasn't running when I purchased it. But it seems the bearing may have been worn enough to cause a bit of wear on the wheel itself. Although the bearing doesn't really have that much play from wear so I'm at a loss as to how this would have occurred.

I'll attach a photo. I tried adding one inline with the post but didn't work.

Anyway, I've installed the new bearing and called it good. It doesn't seem like the wear will affect the new bearing or the wheel in any way. Does anybody see a problem with still using this wheel?

That is probably not wear. Just a casting anomaly. Unless in the past there was a catastrophic bearing failure, then that may have happened but the bearing seat looks good so I agree you should have no issue using it like that

Definitely just how the wheel was cast, mine are not perfectly round either.

Did you replace both bearings? I had the small #6204 bearing fail but the The large #5204 OEM was fine and still going. Basically if the big one had failed I would have replaced both bearings. BTW this was my call as I do my own maintenance regardless opinions otherwise. I found that OEM Honda uses the hard red sealed bearings and the seal is made of phenolic material that ages and crumble/breaks. I always use double rubber sealed (2RS) bearings as replacements.

I only replaced the smaller 6204 bearing. I looked at the larger 5204 bearing and it was nice and tight so I left it in. If the smaller bearing fails again any time soon I'll be doing the double 5204 bearing mod.
