I've done some maintenance to the black bike in preparation for the
Meet In The Middle ride, which nobody seems to be talking about. The
motel is full...

I bled the brakes and clutch and changed the oil.

When I was doing the clutch, I noticed the dust cover on the
pushrod was torn, so I changed that too.

Here's my left over parts...

What did I learn?

If you put the clutch master cylinder pushrod back in backwards
it makes your clutch slip.

I plan on attending I've got 5 maybe 6 in the group    leaving my hometown Friday morning. We'll be coming through The Snake 421 to Shady Valley if you happen to be coming that way.  Labor Day weekend has one of the biggest flea markets in Galax Virginia just across the state line from Sparta so the motel gets some spill over from that.

I've plotted out a five hour ten minute route (!) that covers some of
the roads that Britman's Memorial Day Ride used to use. Remember
"Adako Road" and "watch out, this road will bite you!" on his directions?

It's a well kept secret!   Grin

"Ginger" and I will be there.

I had planned on posting a reminder about the ride, but my cross country trip turned out to be a little more adventurous than initially planned and I got sidetracked.

I was pleased with this latest route I took. Missed all the
places I like to miss, stayed out in the country most of the
time and made good time.

My route even went by a guitar store 40 miles from Sparta...

Several groups went out on Saturday. If you ever heard of
Freeborn, that's where this is...

We got some impressive lightning while we were hanging out
in the evenings at the motel. Both nights most of us were
convinced it would pour. We went from a big circle of chairs
in the corner of the lot to a line of chairs on the porch... it
never rained much.

I convinced Randy that my route was great, so he followed me
home.  A big tree had fallen on Pinnacle Church Road, so we
backed tracked and went down the next road. It went dirt
but me and Randy aren't scared so we kept going. The road
kind of petered out and we had to back track. We got back
to the blue line and were doing fine until I missed the turn
to 64. There was no place to turn around for ten or fifteen miles,
we ended up slogging through a couple of towns to get back
on the line...

We never got wet. Well... I never got wet. Randy had to go
another hour or so to get home in Georgia... ida know...

This is a great ride  cooldude ...

Maybe you can make the Hillbilly Ride on Memorial Day Weekend.

I understand that it might be located close to you.

When you suit up before the rain you don't get wet and you know why all mailboxes are placed at the beginning of the dirt road?  Because the mail carrier won't go down it.

Yep, Freeborn's is just down the road from where Laurel Springs is marked
on the map...

I stopped along the way at a couple of places and one orchard
near home still had good (looking) peaches, I got a bag
full in my saddlebag...  I'll know in a day or so...

That first place you tried to turn off of 11 would have worked, but you'd have
had to go down that road two or three miles before it dumped out on 123/76...
I hope you got through Westminster OK, Carolyn just told me there's an overturned
chicken truck in the road there now... that would have added nicely to your
rainy lost off-road experience  Cheesy ...

I'm just glad my friend Larry put all his rain gear on in Sparta North Carolina ( just knowing it was going to rain ). We made all the 240 miles home and never had a drop hit us.
