searching facebook marketplace past few months, the market has become flooded with good used Valkyries and 2001 on up honda goldwings. Most reasons suggest the age of the riders involved am sure the majority over age 60 and declining health, etc.
What I find interesting is that say a 2006 honda goldwing with similar say 40K miles vs. 2001 honda valkyrie asking price is only 1-3K more in most cases. That was, at least I think it was, not the case even say 3-4 years ago where the 1800cc goldwings fetched more than 3K asking price over an older Valkyrie? Agree? thoughts?
Is there that many more newer say 2001 thru 2008 honda goldwings on the market thus supply high, demand/price lower? I was thinking just a few years ago the newer 1800cc honda goldwings fetched 4-7K more than our older Valkyries? Agree? thoughts?
Tell you what though, not sure I would sell my older Valkyries for what I have seen a few sell lately for only being 3 grand and a few even lower than that. I mean I see like my kids 1997 honda VF750cc magna sell for 2500-3K in price not much less than our Valkryies. Although not the same and ONLY asking price, I have seen a few 1983-1986 honda V65 magnas in pretty darn good condition asking 3500 in price which NO way IMO is worth that much since in 1988 when I was looking for one with say only 1000 miles on one, they were going for 3800 bucks or so way back then in 1988.

I feel there are many factors to the price of older motorcycle's in today's market and you sited some. The 1800 gw has been out around 23 years now and they just kept running. Age of interested riders. Valks are carb run and that scares a lot of folks. Got to remember, $3800 was worth about 2 million in 1998 before inflation Cruiser Motorcycle interest in general has declined, I feel. I blame coved restrictions for a lot of that. I agree with you about the difference between Valks & GW's, the GW's used to always be valued higher, but they only overlapped build years in 01-03, I believe and GW's were injected. I'll give my Valks away to friends and relatives before taking next to nothing for them, just not ready yet.

agree, if cannot get 3-4K on either of my Valks, just keep it or let relatives take over. If you look at price of NEW or even newer cycles, 3-5K is a steal of a deal.

I'm thinking of selling Ruby and her matching trailer, but don't want to just give her away. I love the bike but I'm not riding her as much as I should. Originally bought it with the intention of two up touring and bike camping, but health issues for both of us have put a damper on that. She's beautiful and everything works, which is more than I can say for myself. Yes, I'm getting older and have some health issues. I have two Valks, two trucks, and too much sh!t. It's too cold here six months out of the year, and I'm considering relocation to warmer climes hopefully in the next year or two. Need to start whittling my possessions down...
That said, I plan to hang on to the Silver Bullet for awhile.

am in about same boat, getting older and health issues, just for me though....Hope to turn it around in 2025 after both hips are titanium like da terminator... another factor as said is the younger age riders are not looking for big heavy cruiser cycles much, except for my age 23 kid who much to my surprise took a used 2004 honda goldwing for a spin and actually liked it a lot. Not really ever seen an under age 25 person actually own a 2001 on up honda goldwing? He wants my 1998 Valk but am hoping 2025 is the year I can actually enjoy it again.

I have two Valks, two trucks, and too much sh!t.You and me both brother. (only 1 truck and 2 Valks) I am an accomplished pack rat. I have always saved almost anything I might use again. I have been going through my stuff and giving (decent) things away for the last few months. I keep finding things I've long forgotten, or wondered where the heck I put it. I'm driving up to see my 94yo mm and brother in MI soon, and have a lot of stuff to give them. My brother said... I don't want your junk Jess. New and nearly new clothing (12 sweaters I never wear - too hot), just for starters. I pulled all my nearly new camping gear out of my bike shed attic the other day (mighty dusty up there). 4-man upright tent with extra fly (all poles and stakes), 2-man backpacker pup tent, two light aluminum frame nylon back packs, camp cook set, canteens, water jugs, Coleman whites gas stove and lantern, 2 coolers, extra sleeping bags (one arctic mummy). The frame packs were still in the wrapping the USAF used when I separated 30+ years ago. I don't camp, I stay in flee-bag motels. I've asked neighbors and friends, and no one wants it. Kids today don't camp, they play with their cell phones. I'm not paying to ship it. I may call the local Boy Scouts, if there are any.

well my kids not going to like me when get older, I still have some of their young kids toys in my basement from when they were say 5-10 years old. Does not sound like, as of now, neither my age 23 or 26 kids want to have kids anytime soon (maybe never) so might not be beneficial to keep them for grandkids? I too have a TON of 'stuff' all over my basement that have not used in years. At least will not be as bad as my parents house upstairs that was piled HIGH full of junk IMO, mostly stuff my mom collected at garage sales for a dime or quarter..
AS far as used cycle pricing, I am shocked at pricing of really good condition 1980's honda magnas still asking 3500 bucks for one. that was the price of a good used one in 1988 when I last wanted to buy one, which I eventually did for 1500 bucks. What they ASK though is NOT necessarily what they will GET.

Man, I wish I had the luxury to dedicate months & months inspecting tons of all the old bikes that pop up on the classifieds so I could declare them “Good” - of course, that would leave NO Time to ride…

I found that out when trying to buy a good used older 15 or so year old toyota tundra when PICS looked ok, but once got there, were junk in my eyes. Have not been riding much this summer due to bad hips but am hoping Oct. 8 and Dec. 3rd both hips replaced should cure that for next year 2025 be better. I might try to ride a short distance in November before putting both cycles up just to make sure they can start, but know my batteries in them are pretty weak (one is shot, other iffy) will buy new ones in 2025 for sure. I think NOT riding cycles for months is worse for batteries letting them sit for sure.
