So I am at the end of a long road troubleshooting some exhaust backfiring on shifts. And constant popping at cruise.

It turned out to be plugged slow jets.  But along my path I switched back to stock pipes (From cobra 6x6 no baffles) so I could hear what was going on. I was originally hunting for a vacuum leak (and found a few without much improvement).

1.) My question is I have the cobra adjustable needles, and I would like to bring the position closer to what the stock needles would be set at.

2.) There is a washer before the c-clip on the needle and no washer between the spring and c-clip. My understanding is before the c-clip there should be / any factory installed shims and hardware / then the c-clip / then a cobra supplied washer in between the c-clip and spring.

This would move the needle position and make the setting more rich. I bought the bike with this kit installed so I don’t know what originally came installed. I personally feel the washer should be behind the c-clip but that’s just a voice in my head.

Posting from my phone. I’ll update with some pics when I get back to my computer.

I have Dynajet needles. They recommend the 3rd notch down and I had them there. After a while, I switched to the 2nd notch and the bike runs better. I use the stock shim under the circlip and another shim (supplied by DJ) above the circlip. By increasing back pressure, you might benefit by leaning out the needles.

Thank you. I had these pipes installed when I bought the bike so I don’t know if the washer is a shim.  But there is nothing between the c-clip and spring. I may try to move what I feel is the cobra washer to the correct location.

Does anyone know if shims were added only if needed to richen the stock needles or was there something there from the factory…?

A very thin washer is stock from Honda. It sits under the stock needle and under the adjustable needles.

I measured a stock shim (washer) and got these numbers in thousands of inches. I'm sure they are metric, but you get the idea.

This is exactly what I was about to ask for. Thank you. I’ll pull the needles again and measure what I have as well as take more pics of the installation.

My shim measures

0.019 Thick
0.116 ID
0.269 OD

the only difference is the OD and that shouldn't matter I would assume...  Ill put it back in its place before the c-clip and adjust the clip position as I dial things in.  Thank you for helping me sort this out.

.269 should be fine. There is room in the bottom of the slider.
