My 1998 Valk will only start in the neutral gear, absolutely no other way.  I've tried every other means.   Kick stand up or down, any other gear will not start.  Not sure what my next step is.

Any ideas >> Thanks!

My guess is the kickstand cutoff switch needs cleaned or work.

Up or down, the switch thinks it's down.

Or the bushing in the clutch lever is worn, not depressing the switch. Do you hear it click when you pull the clutch?

Clutch switch could also need replaced.

Jess, Chrius and Valker >> Thanks for your opinions - I appreciate it.

Where is the kickstand cutoff switch located?  I'll check the manual.

I can also check the bushing.  Wouldn't I be having issues with changing gears if the bushing were bad?

I'll replace the clutch switch if the bushing is good, and after checking for the kickstand cutoff switch.

Thanks again.

You could probably take the bushing out and the clutch would work ok, but there'd be so much slop that the microswitch on the clutch handle wouldn't make and complete the circuit to the starter relay.

Hey, Mike: a little troubleshooting or permanent modification- take a short 2-3” wire & crimp female terminations on each end. Slide the females over the 2 prongs of the KS Switch- she should start in any gear. Easily reversible, but I’ve left my bikes that was - KS Sw is defeated  Roll Eyes
