Have to meet a client who is flying into NYC for the day in the morning so will take the Valk to the Bronx and then "sort of" get lost on the way home I figure about an hour north of me should be enough to get the cobwebs out after the 50 miles to work and back Would like to check out the roads in Harriman Park, 7 lakes and 106 to sterling forest This is from the annsville circle to bear mtn bridge https://youtu.be/TAfrK8zOpQg

Enjoy! I still can't believe you ride across that city without a tail gunner with at least an M4.... Edit to add what I'd need, at a minimum, to ride through the Bronx...

One day on a Saturday or Sunday morning a dream would be to explore the city and the Burroughs on the bike. I miss Sunday mornings in downtown, it was fun, used to sit outside a small eatery in SoHo and have coffee and breakfast. Explore around and see the sights it was almost magical. Finding the times when there is less people around allows to explore some really interesting sights. Seeing Wall Street, SoHo the docks go over to the east side or along the water on the west side just so much to see and explore.
I would also like to see explore Brooklyn and the Bronx a bit more. I would imagine it would be easy to get lost for awhile. Go where ever the twist of the grip leads you even to upstate in the blink of the eye.
Ever ride through the tunnels on a bike?

just once, smelled pretty awful (Holland Tunnel)
Dang it is 39 degrees Hope it warms up in the next few minutes or I will drive to work and pick up the bike when it warms up to 50 around 1130 or so
Then just ride up to the Harriman park area and enjoy what is left of the colors in the alpine lakes
I know when I had the last powwow here Gig stayed a while then used his motorcycle and a bicycle to ride around Manhattan
Personally I can not stand Manhattan even for a brief period. Only 1 lane on cross town streets Speed cameras everywhere (25 limit) and cabs do not obey rules of the road to say nothing of all the ebikes and e mopeds
edit took the bike WINDY but great therapy
tires were 36 front and 37 rear when i checked them put them at 41 front 42 rear temps drop the pressure drops

NY is different for a tourist On my ride to work the other day I was surprised myself when old thoughts of just taking the day off and to heck with responsibility took hold of me for a moment. The day was one of those rare Florida days, not to much humidity temps in the low 80's sun was out but not burning the smell was of fresh morning air. As I rode the air was just beautiful, passing around the bike, seamlessly. Those days I also remember about NY, few and far between distant from the daily grind but awesome never the less. Not the hours to get into the city, the wet mess the streets that can become a nightmare with high end shoe leather and no protection. Thanks for answering about the tunnel, had long wondered what it would be like.

Yo, OSS: the time I rented a bicycle was great because I couldn’t stand caging it in that town, went to Little Italy, Bowery, all over… eventually I returned to stay awhile no cage. Took tunnels & bridges, even sidewalks. Have a good one, Buddy! ( they let me out a couple days, gotsta go back soon )

After doing my winterizing projects and mulching some leaves yesterday, I jumped on the I/S for a quick spin and rotate the gas in the carbs. Only got 20 miles but I still consider it a win this time of year.

I'd rather go to the dentist than ride around any city.

I still laugh at Big Hair Girls reaction to the totally jamed subway platform after we had our Little Italy dinner and walked to see the 4th of July fireworks from just north of the Brooklyn Bridge Swear I believe she thought the crowd would push us all onto the tracks Remember old Tiger stadium with the poles? Obstructed views. Stand behind a subway platform pole and you cannot be pushed and you WILL get on the next subway car Days like that Metro North is the best way in and out of lower Manhattan 45 minutes (if we catch the express) from Grand Central to Ossining station along the Hudson River Bet she will never forget that day

I remember all those big square poles in old Tiger stadium, and a seat for sale behind each one. Just lucky I never got one. When I first moved to NoVA for my job after military service a block behind the Whitehouse, I discovered a local neighbor who was starting his first job after law school at the same place. He took me under his wing and showed me the ins and outs of using the DC Metro trains, which was the only rational way to get in and out of that city. And we car pooled to the Metro parking garage that year. "Jess, we will have to change trains every day and the best and quickest stop to do it is this station. But once it gets cold and the wind blows, then that stop is out because it's outdoors and we'll freeze our asses off." He was a good fellow. Poor guy could not handle the stress and hard work quotas imposed on us and quit before being terminated. Dead from rectal cancer in his 30s. From the day I retired (now 14 years), I have never been on those trains or into DC again. A pox on that place.

Yes, there many obstructed view seats at Tiger Stadium. I would sometimes intentionally get one for a big , nearly sold out game. You had to look around, or move over a seat :coolsmiley : the newer Comerica Park retains some of the charm of Tiger Stadium, but the obstructed views are long gone. Great ballpark Theresa was truly panicked by that train ride - never seen that look elsewhere Could be due to the fact the concept of mass transit is foreign to many native Detroiters :tickedoff:s
