To make this Valk related, I do not think I could actually get my leg over her right now....OUCH....

I guess it could be worse...I plan to be lean (or some what less fat) by the time all this snow melts away...

I'm there with ya.. I been trying to workout but it seems like it takes an hour to workout and about 3 days to recover. And apparently, drinking beer to numb the soreness is not recommended (by health professionals).

You guys wanna workout???   Come shovel my darn snow.....  I just dug out the walkway over 2 feet deep and couldn't use the snow blower.  I thought the sun and warmer temps might melt some of this white stuff down... but nooooooooo,.....  it's snowing even more.   I'm gonna have to get on the roof and shovel it off soon I think.   Any takers for the winter workout program.... no charge and free refreshments.....

This too shall pass! Keep it up!  cooldude I began working out at a cross-fit gym (look it up).  I worked out 2 days a week and it took every bit of the other 5 days to recover: And I thought I was in shape when I started.
For three weeks I couldn't sit on a toilet without pain. I couldn't cross my legs while sitting even helping with my arms. I remember the very night, 3 weeks later that I realized that I wasn't hurting when I wasn't moving. I'm now up to 4 days a week and find I recover well.

Give it all you've got; eat well, sleep even better, avoid injury by warming up and stretching before and after - especially after.

It's been 3 1/2 months now and it's still intimidating. My mind is my worst enemy. It try's to talk me out of doing it. My inner devil. Don't succumb!

I'm almost 61 and my entire family thinks I'm crazy. Not much support there. Oh well, I'm doing it for me and my family. Growing old ain't for sissies. But it's a lot easier to do it with strength, balance, flexibility, a full range of motion and a sense of adventure! (That's where the Valkyrie fits in . . .)

Congrats on the effort and keep after it, daily works best for me. If you're sore at first take it easy but still go every day. I've gone 5 days per week since Jan, 2 2008 and my cardio condition is the best of my (past 30) adult life. I do the weight room 3 days a week and the lap pool 5 days a week.

I joined a gym once for the summer when I got out of college.  I rode my bike over there (KZ1000) and worked out with my brother...did the stair master and really pushed myself...he was in better shape than me.  My legs were all rubbery when I was done and could barely walk, but I felt good.  Went outside to leave and, without really thinking about it, threw my leg over the bike.  I cramped up so bad, it took all I could to keep from falling and dropping the bike on myself.  I think my little brother about pissed himself laughing at me.  Cheesy

There is a saying that's absolutely true "Use it or Lose it"

I go to the Fitness center three times/week.  Moderate weight training and brisk walking at least one mile each time.  It really works for me.  I don't overdue it so I don't come home with sore muscles but it keeps me going.  The only thing that it doesn't do is get rid of my arthritis but that's ok.

I'll be 82 in two months and doing this helps me to ride the Nighthawk and get in and out of the Miata.

Now I gotta lose some weight again, this hibernation is making me eat too much.

Since my accident last july and several surgeries I became sedintary and I weighed way too much.
Since January 2nd I've been going to the gym 5 days a week and working out for at least one hour a day. Talk about being sore;....but it is the highlight of my day! I'm sleeping better, walking more and not falling down (I have nueromusucular issues due to some spinal chord problems). And the weight loss is good also.

I'll never be 20 again, but being in my mid fifties I now feel better than I have in a long time.

I guess having the wife write them a check every month wasn't enough of a workout for you? Go figger. You know the results are directly related to the effort right?

I didn't go to that much trouble....it came out of my checking acct each month.....I had to poke some fun at myself......I did actually go to the gym that first few months, but then they put us on 10 hr days at work and after working all day in 100+ temps in the summer, the gym was the last place I wanted to be.....cavorting around on the weekends on the Valk ruled out using my days off......oh well, easy come.....easy go!

Exactly right!.

I found that your youth will get you through until about 65, after that your warrantee runs out and it's best to get some exercise insurance.  Another thing, everything that you have done to your body, broken arm, etc, will come back to remind you at about age 65, don't ask me how I know. Grin Grin

It allows me to ride a bicycle all year long. Injuries many years ago has created some arthritic conditions that make it painful to do much walking....along with too much weight. So, I ride the bike 3-4 times a week, usually cover at least 6.5 miles but most of the time over 8 miles. When riding I keep up a good pace, unlike my neighbor who is one day younger than me. When he rides it's like a Sunday afternoon stroll, real slow and easy, but at least he's moving....about three times a month. For me, it keeps everything working as it should...or at least as good as possible given the years. For a long time my urologist didn't believe me when I filled out his questionnaire re. daily(and nightly) habits. I told him I go to bed to sleep, and don't get up until daylight. Exercise does that for you I guess.

I've tried to go workout but time is a issue. When I work 24 hrs and then go right in for another 6-8hrs at my other job, when I get home I dont feel like going back to town for another hour or 2. In the summer there is no way. When I sweat all day outside theres no way I want to go sweat again. Kit has always been good at working out till this year when she went to 3rds. Now she tries to do it at home. She said she gained to much weight after we met. Like its my fault!  Shocked Besides, she likes my belly! I'm not tring to impress anyone anyway. I do have chains on my vest I would like to get rid of tho.  Undecided
I've picked up healthy people that eat good, no history, no meds, worksout, etc for heart attacks or just plain dead. I figure I will live the way I want to and enjoy my years. When its time to go, its time to go. You can only prolong life for so long.

+1 on the bikes.

20 years ago (I was 33) I belonged to a gym, spent an hour or more 3x a week working out.  I lived 18.5 miles from work and decided to save my gym membership money to play golf and started riding my bike to work 3 days a week.  It took me about an hour and 10 minutes each way on the bike and 20 minutes in the car.  So by riding my bike I was getting about 2.5 hours of exercise and only adding about an hour and a half to my day.  Plus I felt great and had a flat belly.

Well I moved, got a new job and now it's 43 miles each way to work.  The roads are not conducive to bike riding.  Needless to say the belly is no longer flat.  As soon as the snow melts, I do plan to get the bike out.  I just hope Cheniqua doesn't get jealous if I ride the bike instead of her once in a while.

Actually, that's pretty impressive Hoser.  I never did that kind of distance, but was a sprinter from birth till about 40.  As a kid, I lived to run.  In third grade at Cook's Corners elementary school (5th and 6th in the same class) I beat every challenger to an any distance race at recess the whole year.  Ran track; 10.8 100, 22.9 220; half and mile relays. In track they made us train distance to run sprints (not marathons).  I got out of it over the years but in 1990 (@37) on active duty I did 700 miles 4-5 days a week at 3-5mi; only two ten mile days back to back, but I had to quit that because of ankles and Achilles.  All my miles were 8 minutes.... start to finish (not hard).

Now both Achilles are shot and I walk the treadmill smartly, with the occasional jog.  And there's a few sets of dumbbells around somewhere.  I'm gonna retire in a month, and will do more. (5'9" 180)

I started when I was about 35, to have incentive to quit smoking.  Got that done, and really got into that running craze, vowed I would break a 40 minute 10K by time I was 40.  Got that done ran all kind of crazy road distances, then got busy with the kids until they grew up, then I went back to ridin my bike a lot.  Had a 75 Z1B Kawasaki at that time.  Rode it until the Valkyrie caught my eye.  Only bike I ever had that was as fast as that Saki.  Hoser

Ha! My 1990 700 miles was about quitting smoking too, among other things.
Arrived at March AFB with a CB750K with Vetter and hardbags, left with an HD FXRD dresser.  (Neither were faster than the Valk) :-)
