Any day that you ride is a good day!

Moneta, VA

« on: January 14, 2025, 11:31:31 AM »

I spent some time looking through pics from various rides that I've been on and events that I've been to with this wonderful group over the years.

As I did it struck me, how many have left us too soon.

In no particular order, I decided to share some of those pics.

Oz, the founder of the group that has brought so many of us together over the years.

This was the picture that got me to thinking about some of those who've passed.

There are four in this pic that have passed on.

I hope that they're riding the twisties in Heaven together!

Wimp

Santa

Highbinder

(Wimp is in the orange shirt)

Gordon

(Wimp is on the right in the white shirt)

(My personal favorite PIC of Gordon Smiley )

Eric

Thumper

If anyone has picture of these riders or of others that also left us too soon, feel free to share them here.

My hope is that many of you also enjoy this bittersweet trip done memory lane.

Thanks for sharing those Mark.  cooldude

I remember a bunch of those guys, from years ago.

I'm in one of those pics, and have no earthly idea where or when it was.

I don't remember the blond with the pants that don't fit, but I wish I did.

But I'm still here.

I'm showing it taken on the "Meet in the Middle Ride" in 2012.

I don't know her name, but the pic was taken @ Inzane VIII in Johnson City, TN.

This is Melvin, riding the train at IZ 21, I believe. He passed August 2023 from a heart attack at work.
He was a quiet, unassuming, hard working guy. Him and Norma were good friends. He had just finished adding a sidecar to his Valk.

When Larry Kaneko (DoYouSeeWhatHappensLarry) passed away, I told his wife Jane (TwoBottles) that if she was selling his Gold Wing, is like to buy it, and that I would like some of his ashes to keep on his bike so he can ride with me.  We have been neighbors for 30 years.

I don't have any photos of Larry on my phone, but I'll post some from my 'puter later.

All these pictures remind me of how much I have missed over the years. Many things have pulled me in other directions over the years, mainly finances, work and family. So many times I have counted down to certain ride opportunities only to have to tell myself, next time. Even in retirement I find myself still having to make a lot of compromises when it comes to these opportunities. That’s why I enjoy the VRCC both here and on Facebook and the opportunity to stay connected with those I know and those I’ve never met. Hope to see a bunch of you in Lewisburg this June, it will be here before we know it!

Great photos and I'm a sucker for reminiscing.   I want to tell all of you.  There is something we all have in common that the vast population will most likely never experience.

In no order:

*Riding on two wheels on so many roads throughout U.S.A.

*Looking in your phone contacts,  fb, etc counting all those you met from riding your valkyrie.

*a smell, word, road, place - triggers memories of trips with fellow valkyrie riders and friends.

*you hear someone tell you how far it is to a destination and no matter if you are in a cage or 2 wheels you immediately calculate how many fuel stops it is to the destination.

(I'm sure there are more)

I say all this to remind you and me... how thankful we should be knowing that we belong to something very special. Treasure those times together and do your best to get together you just never know.

So many of you are closer to me than most of my extended family.

Love you all and thanks for the pictures.

That was your dad, wasn't it?

After I got my first bike in HS, my mom got the bug and dad got her a little 125 Harley Rapido (Harley imported from Italy back then), but that thing was a very torquey smokey 2-stroke that would get away from you if your weren't real careful with the clutch (and she fell off a couple times).  This was before MSF, and dad and I taught her.  So he got rid of it and bought them a matched pair of better and smoother 360 Honda twins, which was also so he could ride with and keep an eye on her.  They even took a couple trips on them.  But after she fell off hers a couple more times, he talked her into getting rid of them and got her a little car.

Mom has always been the adventurous type, and only gave up driving this past year at 95 (to her surviving children's great relief).  To my knowledge, she only ever got one moving violation in her life, but can only see out of one eye these days.
