I am in the process of planing a trip to the Mammoth Cave National Park.

Basecamp (the software I have to use) has me routed on a road going North through Daniel Boone National Forest.  It's identified as Old Wilderness Road.

Never been on the road to my knowledge.   Does anyone have any comments on road quality?

Thanks.

I’m not familiar with that road at least by that name even though I live near the Daniel Boone National Forrest and have done some riding in the area. I traversed part of the National Forrest on my way to Roanoke Inzane. But I’m going to look for it as you have my interest up.

Thanks.  I am using Basecamp and I tired to verify the road name.  I did not check it on another map.

Our visit to that area years ago, the road that goes west of the Mammoth Inn road had a draw bridge operating at that time. The cave tour (2 hr.?) is awesome except "Fat Man Misery" passage as it made me feel really claustrophobic.

Thanks for the feedback h13man.

The reason I ask is that, in using Basecamp for route planning, when I select the "Motorcycle" routing it tends to select more "rural" roads.

Now, the up side is that I have taken four or more trips in the last year or two and the routes picked by Basecamp have all been reasonable and fairly clean passages.  And some were surprisingly scenic.

While I had not specially planned on visiting the Mammoth Cave, I think I will put that on my trip itinerary

We don't do a lot of stopping on our rides unless planned in advance.  We just love the scenery.

Some years ago (August 2009), I was riding in that Mammoth Cave area and found the ferry by accident.       I had stayed overnight in Horse Cave, Ky and was headed West.  I took the wife on that route the next year and just wanted to do it again.

But the route I traveled in 2009 and 2010 was less rural than the route that got planned in Basecamp.  And I just wanted to ask the question.
