I took a road trip to Scottsdale for Barrett Jackson two weeks ago. The back roads through Utah and Arizona are a blast, and Scottsdale makes me feel young with all those people much older than me! I also get to visit my daughter who lives there and happens to work for the company that handles the event ticketing.

The place is huge and I walked over 9 miles on my first day. I spent most of my time visiting the vendors and looking at the buildings and tents foll of auction cars. There are a surprising number of bargains, like this Audi for just $6,250. It's hard to find anything in a used car lot for so little.

This older SL500 with just 32K miles sold for just 11K:

And this impeccible Bently Mulsanne sold for 58K:

On the other side of the coin, the old VW buses bring insane prices. This one sold for 70K!

I live near the event (comparatively). Most people feel this event will get them a high price but if bidders aren’t there, bargains can be had. The seller pays a fee and the buyer pays sales tax too. Craig Jackson is the biggest winner.

I like to look, but the maintenance (required periodic and other) on those foreign cars can be really expensive, even if you get a good buy one one.

They're on TV all the time on the Motor Trend channel, which I watch all the time.

My favorite show on there is Roadworthy Rescues.  Derek Bieri is a gifted mechanic and funny as hell.  And reminds me of my brother.  Both can drag something out of the weeds after 20 years and get it running in one day, and have it fixed up to use in a few days.  I like this show better than the high end restorations and giant tall trucks with 42" wheels shows.

Vice Grips Garage.

Derick is entertaining, for sure.

I love his vids where he finds a car or tuck out in the woods or pasture and with some Harbor Freight tools and a  O'Reilly's parts store fixes it enough to drive it 1000 - 1500 miles home, fixing it the whole way.

He just released a vid on a Dodge Polare he drove home, let sit some, and shade tree restored.

Came out nice.

I'm kinda glad I don't have space for more vehicles, I'd get in trouble going to auctions.

While there are lots of bargains at Barret Jackson, especially in the mornings through mid-week, the cars sold on TV are more interesting and pricey. Here are a few, including a beautiful '59 Caddy and a trio of Superbirds:
