My answer would depend - is insurance and all maintenance/upkeep magically covered too or do I have to cover 'em myself? That'll make a big difference in my choice...

Friend of mine owns a dealership (Dodge) in town and drove one of these for his personal vehicle. Never new the significance of it, but i'm sure that is why he had it. It really surprised me that he sold it a couple of years ago. It was still in showroom condition and the same color as the pic.

Had 69' Camaro Rally that I sold that got fully restored to show QC witha fold down rear seat and my 71' 307 Nova coupe which wasn't in to bad of shape body and drive train. Sold it with 187,000 mi. as we needed a boat hauler/larger vehicle with our new family of 12-15 yrs. old 5 boys thus we purchased a 67' F85 4 dr. that stayed in the family for 7 yrs. That 330/Powerglide would pull the 1500# Sidewinder off extremely angled wet ramp w/o one issue of slipping. Came across the Nova 2 yrs. later in a junk yard with 235,000 and was badly abused body wise while searching for a turn signal switch for the F85. That was a fiasco as 66'&67' was the only fitment years.

My 69' Impala 235 hp. 327 coupe would be my most favorite to have with modern day restore/upgrades but this would be delightful as its the same except under the hood.

I bought a '69 Camero new.   Had the 300 hp 350, 4 on the floor.  But was a plain jane Camero on the outside.  Not sure how the dealer got it, but he did.   it was fast and got 19 mpg at 90 mph.   Had a lot of fun with her.  AND she was fire engine red.  Top speed for me was 135 mph, always stopped there as front end would raise a bit.   Still had some engine left. Bought it with heavy duty suspension.   IT was hard to push down on the fenders.  Lots of fun on the curves.   Found out that I could move the seat back about 3", helped out my 36" inseam.

Drove from McNary AZ to Bosman Mt.  in less than 11 hours in '70.  Not many interstates then.

Can’t think of a single cage I really care all that much about.   If money was no object, there would be a hangar in my back yard with a helicopter there to be flown whenever I felt like it.

Yeah, I know I’m different.   Wink

Recommend you get the plane first, to do it the other way around, you may not be able to afford the plane.  Wink

I loved my early 70's Impala's. 71 was my favorite but seeing as there was no SS version it would have to be upgraded to a big block, manual 5 or 6 speed with o/d. Also deck trunk lid 2 door are mandatory.

Oleman, what were you doing in McNary, AZ? Working in the sawmill?  My favorite ride would be a Caterham7 420R or a '67 Mini Cooper S. Back in the day I raced a '65 Sunbeam Tiger with a heavily modified 260 Ford. That was fun.

Money is no object car dreams, can be a big disappointment I suppose when you look at people who have unlimited funds available. There are Saudi princes who have warehouses full of vehicles of every description and they sit. I’ve seen pictures where their F40’s are covered in dust. But, if money were no object, you can be sure I would be out there testing the water for my flight of fancy.

There is one guy I would seek out for help in case I felt that I was overlooking the perfect ride. Jay Leno is in my mind the ultimate connoisseur of fine automobiles who does more than just acquire them. He wrench’s on them and he drives them.

But this could be my pick. One off, hand formed aluminum body, V12 powered, interpretation of a 1954 Corvette.

At the end of the day, I doubt I would enjoy it anymore than my highly imperfect Corvette that brings a smile every time I take it out.

There is nothing wrong with dreaming.

But for me, whatever the car/truck would be, I like 'sleepers.'

The finest, shiniest, most rare and elegant draw inevitable human envy (and thrown rocks), leading the owner to be reluctant to drive or park them anywhere but his garage.  Like so many collectors do.

My minty chromey Interstate with flying dragons hand painted on the bags, had the DC tourists putting small children on the seats in front of my Federal building for pictures, and dragging shoes across my perfect tank.  The second time, I decided I could not take it to work anymore.

A good sleeper with great performance but intentionally ordinary looks could be used much more without so much worry about what might happen to it.

And I don't even have a garage and lack the required code setoff to even build one.

I've apparently gotten a short break from the terrible weather and will be out in the driveway shortly scrubbing the winter crud off my truck (before the coming deep freeze).

I know of two garages where one of each sits and only get on the road on sunny days.   Have taken friends to the owners garages (also friends) and they always ask what it would take to get one.   The owners just smile and say, not for sale.  Smiley

This. P51

I actually got a ride in this machine 15 years or so ago.  Did a wealthy guy a favor, and in his circle of friends one of them owned this airplane.  The owner came through my local airport one day and on short notice I was offered a ride and off we went.  A converted two seater that once I crawled in the back seat I knew I would never never crawl out of without help.  Once airborne the owner handed me the rear controls.  The 30 minute flight was so visceral, like riding a top fuel dragster down the 1/4 mile strip I guess.  All engine, just incredible.  The smell of burnt oil, the vibration of a highly tuned engine, the whistle of the airstream . . . and the history of these machines.

And so, we play the lottery.

Cars just don't do it for me.  If money was unlimited, I'd get a late model large frame pickup - an F350 or something like that and I'd take it to one of the custom builders like Kindig It Design and have them remove the cab and bed and adapt a '40s vintage cab-over cab to the frame and put a flat bed on the back with stake sides and possibly a fold-down crane.  It would need the air conditioning and a decent sound system in the cab. It would look '40s on the outside, but all the running gear would be modern.

For a winged machine, I like the P-51 but would want something more functional and a little roomier - maybe an Airbus C-295.  That way I could bring the car along and have wheels where ever I am.
