60-65 wonderful degrees, and took a nice day ride through the countryside. I left with a heavy T shirt and vest, but cut back through the neighborhood back home for a jacket. I could have gone without, but it was just a bit chilly, and my ride always goes west and always drops a few degrees out there. Perfect temp for a nice cool ride. There were a few bugs out even in late February, and I ate one. Not bad, and reminded me of better days to come. Not one of those stink bugs, you don't ever want to eat one of those (ptouy!!). They're not out until full summer. The next few days will be the same.

Congrats on the bug and the ride.
I got out also. Should have worn long sleeves under the mesh jacket but wasn't worth going back home for.
Tip on the bugs: Your esophagus and stomach have no taste buds. Swallow without it touching your tongue and you are good.

Another bug tip for Interstates:
Stick a strip of foam rubber up the fairing vent so bugs don't get shredded and fired into your face like a shotgun (parts and goop). There's enough air without it, even behind the fairing and shield. If you wear a full face helmet, disregard.

“Like a shotgun” yikes. I almost forgot about bugs in the face/mouth since going to a full face helmet. But I’ve tasted my share of insects over the years before full face became standard.

I was in FL many times, long ago. There's a LOT of bugs there. Lake Erie (where I grew up) gets Mayflies every year (guess what month?) The bugs have no mouths so they don't bite, and they will die off within 24 hours, just in time for another swarm to get blown ashore.

yikes, that is a ton of mayflies, never seen them that bad but along mississippi river over by prairie du chien there were enough on the road to make car and/or boat trailer tires slide a bit. speaking of bugs, I was sitting on my recliner last night and felt something in my hair, I scratched it now knowing what it was. I then started eating a mini kit kat bar and thought was a crumb of chocolate on my shirt, so CHEWED/ATE it. One small bite and immediately smelt like a ladybug. YEP! spit it out and was correct left a nasty taste in my mouth. Serves me right for eating a mini kit kat bar in the dark late at night.

Saw a friend who was helping us get hay to the barn once, headed back to the barn at road speeds, we were up on top of the hay on the back of the truck. He was yelling at the driver when a locust flew down his throat. Was funny to me but, not so much to him. He was done for the day. Rams

Jess,
I think I had a bug try to eat me yesterday while riding through the 'Brush Country' south of San Antonio. I was reveling in the wonders of riding everywhere with nowhere in particular as a destination when... I felt it brush my cheek and enter between the leather ear covering on my half helmet and my flesh and then on to my ear.
I instinctively stuck my finger in after it to try to scoop it out... I think I really must have angered it, and a searing pain soon followed! I considered pulling over to relieve the situation... but I didn't... Ever have thoughts of doing things over and making different choices? Yeah, me too...

Don't know if you're still in the area, but there's a nice little museum on the east side of Pleasanton and friends of ours have a winery over in Poteet. RP

DDT (12) Bruce, I once had a bee (of some kind) get in my ear while riding (only half helmets, with skirt in cold). And when I instinctively started poking around in there with a finger, he attempted to escape by crawling his fuzzy legs right down my ear hole. That did it and I jerked into the breakdown lane, jumped off, threw off my helmet, and started brushing both ears with both hands frantically while dancing around. He left, and I did not get stung. Drivers by, were pointing and laughing, and I imagined one saying... there's another goofy motorcycle guy who probably got some bad LSD.
