This is pretty sad news to hear. Speculation is probably carbon monoxide (CO). Authorities saying no foul play at this time.

Hackman had a great career in Hollywood with quite a few memorable films and roles and he could go from action to comedy to drama.

Never much of a peep out of him outside of his career.

His wife was a classical pianist.

I liked Gene Hackman and the parts he played.  Was not aware he was still alive.

I saw the news and read their ages.  I think he was 95 and his wife was 63.  That concerned me along with their dog being dead also.

The thought of CO poisoning did not cross my mind.  It is possible since they might well have been confined.  But....  CO poisoning might well have been the cause.

According to the news this evening, the local sheriff said they may have been dead a few weeks.   Dog was dead in it's cage.  The bodies were found in different rooms.   One just has to wonder what happened.

One report was Gene was found on the floor with his sunglasses not far from his body and wife was found at bathroom door with pills (no mention of what type of medication) scattered across the sink and floor and a small heater (I think) laying near her. One dog they said was in a closet yet 2 other dogs were roaming about the property.

Apparently both bodies were in some state of mummification.

A property maintenance man who did regular work for them was the one who made the 911 call.

I think CO or a gas leak has been ruled out now.

This is a weird situation for anyone who would have died.

cooldude I liked Gene Hackman. I enjoyed many of his movies. I knew he was as old as Clint Eastwood and I thought he was doing pretty well. I'm sad he went out this way with his wife passing too. To have been dead for 2 weeks is a surprise but the say he lived a very private life. Still odd circumstances of both passing the way they did. RIP  angel

The dead dog was in a cage obviously not fed or watered since the humans died.
