Well, they aren't wasting her talents ( and her co- strandee's )  - they're kept busy doing the work on the ISS, along with the other crewmembers.

While things didn't go as planned, they aren't really stranded.   There is a Emergency Capsule there that could be used but, for several reasons NASA doesn't want to use it.  It is interesting that Boeing said the original capsule was safe for a return ride back to earth, NASA didn't want to chance losing any more astronauts.   That decision was made knowing it would be some time before another capsule could go get them.   No idea if the two astronauts in question had a vote in that.

As it turns out, Boeing was correct but that wasn't a known fact till the capsule got back home.   You live life and it's always got it's risks.
