At least for kite flying. I’ve missed several good days this year due to my backyard mechanic projects. But I went out on the bike today to run some errands and take the long way home. But heavens to Betsy, it was a chore keeping the bike in my lane, even stopped at a light the gusts were trying to push me over. Long story short, I did my errands and came home, just didn’t want to do something stupid, as I some times do.

Was a very windy day all day mixed with no wind times yesterday then the front moved in late yesterday afternoon. Was a rocking night last night, multiple tornado warnings, some touched the ground in SE Arkansas and SW Tennessee. Based on all the evidence I can find, no severe damage close to our immediate area but, it rained hard and long. According to the local news we got over three inches of rain last night, there was hail in our area but, it doesn't appear to have hit around our home, some reported as baseball size hail. Flash flood warning are out for our area, the Weather man says we can expect three more days of similar weather. Water, water everywhere and not a drop I want to drink. Where's DDT when you need him..................... His ability to avoid such weather is infamous. Rams

We have had three high wind storms pass thru this week so far. Wednesday 5:30 am storm raged on for until 6:40 according to my dead clock. My south wall in the pole garage must have "vibrated" for better term to use, dispelled my 14" dia. wall clock off the wall and it had a glass lens. 1/2 hr. to clean up.

Lest we forget, people in the path of this storm and accompanying water still haven’t recovered from Helene and a few other weather related issues going back to last year.

Me too. We've just had a boatload of high winds for a long time now.
Riding the Interstate sailboat is one thing, but you come to a stop, with left foot down and right on the brake to hold it still, and a big gust tries to knock you over. For the rest of the day, it's two feet down and use the hand brake to hold you still.

Hope this doesn’t become an annual event. I think we can say we have officially established Monsoon Season in Kentucky! But I’m counting my blessings as my home is on high ground, with good drainage. I can get to where I need to go without concerns about road washouts, and I suppose everyone’s water supply reservoirs are full. So far the closest tornado to touch down was 80+/- miles away and it was minor compared to some.

This recent front that is still passing over our TN home has brought some interesting Wx conditions. We've had very high winds up to 60 mph on the same day that we had still wind sporadically only to get the strong winds again. We've had about 4.5 inches of rain but, the metorologists are calling for up to 10 more this weekend. We seen baseball size hail within 10 miles of our home. More severe Wx predicted up until Sunday morning.
So far, no real damage for us but I am looking for plans to build an Ark. I still don't know how much/long a cubit is.....................

I still don't know how much/long a cubit is......A cubit, an ancient unit of length, is based on the length of the forearm from the elbow to the tip of the middle finger. Extremely exacting. After torrential rains filled my backyard deep enough to float a boat (and came very close to my ancient and prone to leak basement foundation) a couple years ago, I slaved with pick and shovel and axe to dig a trenchline at the foot of the property, with a big drain to the street. The root bound solid clay almost killed me. Since the trench and drain was constructed, I've never had occasion to see it work (for more than a trickle). Not that I ever care to see that much rain again.

I had had the same thought - my "cubit " is longer than normal people (I wear 34/35 inch long sleeve shirts). In 4-8th grades I literally had my hands resting at my knees. 7th grade - needed a suit for orchestra concerts - Mom ended up MAKING my suit coat because she couldn't find one at any store in town - she had to add 4 inches to the pattern sleeves. Even today - I have to shop at Big/Tall shops ( or stores that are known for accomodating people like me - Like Duluth Trading...)

Well, this is interesting. I just got a Wx Warning on my cell phone, says Severe Weather Warning, 80 Mph Winds headed my way, tornado sirens going off in the distance. Hmm, I guess we'll see if the Wx Guesser is right. Rams
