Hi, took my 99 interstate out of storage and first ride yesterday and it would start in neutral but not in gear with clutch pulled in, it’s a trike. Took the switch off clutch lever and cleaned the points but didn’t make any difference. Going to get a replacement one tomorrow but wondered if there is anything else that I should look at.

I would check the kick stand switch. If the kick stand was removed when the bike was triked,   double check how they wired around it.

Rewire so it appears NEUTRAL always.
Jumper 2 prongs (probably #2 & #3 - from memory… Undecided) all my bikes set this way

If: you hit starter while in gear - Jump!

Been a while since I had a Valkyrie but I think I remember that the pivot point would wear and not engage the switch that made the connection.  Maybe a new clutch lever fixed it.

This would be my bet too.

Check the clutch switch and and the two spade connections located on the left handlebar beside the pivot.
