Over the years I've tried various things to hold a belt pulley in postition, always kinda frustrating. The timing is off a bit over a tooth on the Wing motor so figured what the heck, not a big job physically. It can test your patience, especially when setting one side and the crank dead on the marks and you need to adjust the opposite belt pulley without the other moving. I finally got to poking around in my collection of odd ball tools and came up with the pictured item.
First, anyone that has ever changed the serpentine on a car knows what this tool is used for. I measured the distance between the slots on the Valk timing belt pulley, comes to 3.5", and drilled a couple holes and used some red Loktite on the bolts. The tool is long enough so you can set it and stick under you leg or tie it down so it doesn't move and go about setting things where you want them. Making a one tooth adjustment is a test of your religion but this made it easier. You can make one using some steel strap available at Lowes or Home Depot. I just happened to have the serpentine belt tool and now have two tools in one.
Just thought I'd pass it on, I'm sure others have their own method of setting the timing, this is just what I came up with.
