Over the years I've tried various things to hold a belt pulley in postition, always kinda frustrating. The timing is off a bit over a tooth on the Wing motor so figured what the heck, not a big job physically. It can test your patience, especially when setting one side and the crank dead on the marks and you need to adjust the opposite belt pulley without the other moving. I finally got to poking around in my collection of odd ball tools and came up with the pictured item.

First, anyone that has ever changed the serpentine on a car knows what this tool is used for. I measured the distance between the slots on the Valk timing belt pulley, comes to 3.5", and drilled a couple holes and used some red Loktite on the bolts. The tool is long enough so you can set it and stick under you leg or tie it down so it doesn't move and go about setting things where you want them. Making a one tooth adjustment is a test of your religion but this made it easier. You can make one using some steel strap available at Lowes or Home Depot. I just happened to have the serpentine belt tool and now have two tools in one.

Just thought I'd pass it on, I'm sure others have their own method of setting the timing, this is just what I came up with.

I hear Flori-duh is supposed to get a lot of rain shortly. Better put on your speedo in case you have to swim for it.  Cheesy

I used a fence board with 2 bolts/nuts through holes I drilled in the board.  I just needed to hold the pulley long enough to get the cam bolt out.  I replaced the seals on the front and rear of the clutch side head, looking for an oil leak.  Turned out to be the crank seal.   tickedoff

Temps are fairly decent at the moment, this is about the time they schedule Spring and usually lasts a week to ten days. Has been in the 70-80 range for the last few days but 50's have been scheduled starting again next week. Always interesting to find out which day they proclaim will be summer, usually will hit high 80's. You should hear the old guy next door complain about the heat. He starts running his AC off/on in the high 60's, by the time it hits the 70's it's on 24/7 and seldom goes outside from that point on. He often asks how I can handle "all this intense heat" and just tell him I'm used to it having lived in God's Waiting Room for 53 years. He complains about the heat more than I do about the cold...and he's 10 years younger than me. Grin
