The OE is a Yuasa YTX14-BS, and all I've ever used.
I keep both my Interstates on battery tender float chargers 24 X 7 when not riding. They will last 8-11 years doing this, but you risk one just totally failing at some point. So 7-8 years, I'd swap them out.
Today working on one of my bikes electrical (ON, off, ON, off) it clearly lost it's charge too quickly. It was 10 years old; I waited too long.
I have always kept a new Yuasa with acid on the side (in the house) against the time I will need a replacement. So it's slow charging as we speak. I've always ordered them on line from places like ProCaliber, Partzilla, Revzilla and others and they were shipped to my house.
Today I was told by my first seller, they could not ship one to me, but didn't know why. My second seller also said it could not be shipped (with acid on the side) because about two years ago Federal Hazardous Waste and Clean Air rules were changed prohibiting it. I could order a precharged battery and have it shipped, but I would never do that; it could have been prechared several years ago and sat in a warehouse, and that is NOT a new battery.
I checked the new one I charged today, and it was about 3 years old (so before the rule change).
But the 2d guy knew more and said I might have luck getting one from local auto parts stores.
So I called and both AutoZone and Advance Auto (both a mile and half from my house) and both had the battery in stock (acid on the side). Both were exactly $129.99 ($10 core charge to leave your old battery with them). AutoZone had the Yuasa, Advance Auto had a Die Hard, but that guy said both Die Hard and Yuasa were made by the same company.
I know I never paid more than $75 or so for one before (plus shipping). Everything is UP>
This was all news to me, so I thought I'd share the info (I don't get out much).
I'm in no hurry, this one will probably sit for several more years until I need it.

Amazon has batteries filled and ready to install. Many to choose from. I use them on both bikes. AGM requires no filling.

“AGM requires no filling” - Wrong! It will explode without electrolyte Absorbed gas Matt still requires electrolyte to function - someone Has to install the acid.

The new owner doesn't fill it. The AGM battery, as delivered, has been filled with acid and sealed at the factory. Many of them come with instructions saying don't charge it before putting it into the bike.

Pluggy, I value all your advice.
But how can you know how long any precharged battery has been sitting before it is delivered to you?
And I'm buying one as backup that may sit for several years before I charge and use it.

Jess, maybe the battery has a date code?
One battery from Amazon a few years ago had "don't charge it" right on the box. The manufacturer may have had a concern that somebody may put 20 amps of charge on it. Dangerous. Anyway, the bike started right up and whatever charging was needed was done by the bike on the first ride.
I don't keep oil, filters, batteries, etc in the garage like I used to. These now come overnight from Amazon.

Amazon has the Yuasa YTX14-BS Maintence Free Battery with Acid Pack for $90.83. Bought one last year and had no problem with delivery. I had previously bought a cheaper AGM and it didn't last long so I'm sticking with YUASA.

Maybe this is a good place to ask this question....
I bought a Lithium battery for my TW 200 and it is great - a fraction of the weight, has a push button battery power indicator on top, and more cranking amps.
Would such a battery be suitable for the Valkyrie as well?

Yes. And thank you. That US-made Big Crank AGM battery lasted me almost 9 years. No need to fill or charge it, just slide it in and connect it. It may not be what Jess is looking for, but I would recommend that product. Expensive? When it comes to "miles per dollar" it is a winner.

My Amazon USA made Yuasa AGM came with separate acid pack. 1.4 charge rate suggested but I used the 2 amp. setting on my charger/starter and it has a AGM switch though never worried about it before as my old 100 amp. C/S didn't have it. Bike came with a Napa sealed unit that lasted 12 yrs. and the Yuasa lasted 7 yrs. Using a Duracell for 2 yrs. and yes $100 seems to be the going rate for brand name AGM. I never purchased a powersport battery w/o having a separate acid pack. Yes we have Interstate battery store that needed a 1/ hr. lead time for prep but their prices are kinda salty but never been in a big hurry nowadays. On a note, you know how much warning you get when your power tool Lithuim dies and not mention buying a separate charger are two negatives I see in Lithuim and I don't ride under 50 degrees thus cold start power isn't a priority that Lithuim provides. My Tender Jr. takes care of long term and then I only plug it in twice during winter layup. or after 2 wks. of sitting.

Well, I just got off the phone with Amazon (which of course was somewhere in the Philippines). After sitting on hold for a long time, then talking with a nice young lady who I could hardly understand (please say that again, X 10), and having to verify my account 3 ways, and get an email and hit confirm, she was finally able to tell me this Yuasa battery could be shipped to my home (there are some restricted places they can't). She could not tell me WHY Amazon can ship and none of my other big US-nationwide motorcycle parts sellers could ship, which is why I called. It's a foking mystery. I can only assume Amazon is big (and wealthy) enough to get around Federal restrictions that ProCaliber, Partzilla, Revzilla cannot. But it's just a guess. $50 cheaper than local auto parts is worth the hassle. My 3yo new Yuassa is all charged up (from acid pack) and in the bike and working fine this morning.

Draeger , YES , I have a lithium ion in my bike. I think it is almost three years now. I bought the battery ,and charger together . It has never needed a recharge even with winter parking.
