Well temp`s in the 60`s today. Time to start , awake, the Tourer from it`s winter nap. Turned on gas, hit starter and BAMN. Bike started at first turn, never started that fast after sitting for 3 months. Started to take a short ride, but I would have to drive thru, over, a snow drift. So I thought better of it. I can wait a little longer I guess. Roll Eyes

Hey Spirited-6...not to 'snow on your parade"...but...

If you're so desperate for a motorcycle fix that you simply have to start it, make certain to run it for at least 5 minutes or so. Starting your engine for, say, 30 seconds is a bad idea - you pay the extra wear and tear price of starting an engine where the oil is cold and has all sunk to the sump, and you don't heat the oil and exhaust up enough to boil off sulphurics and water vapor.

Therapist, thanks for the advise.  Wink My rule of thumb is never short start a motor of any kind, if at all possible. My Valk. will run until value covers are warm to the touch, about 8 to 10 minutes. Winter dry dock is hard on bikes if not done right. I.E. full tank,Sea foam, tires up 3 to 5 pounds, oil and filter changed,waxed,batt.tender,cover. I park on a heavy rubber mat. At a 60 or 90 day level I will start bike for complete warm up. I have done it this way for about 40 + years, less Batt.Tender, they did`nt have them back in the day. Smiley

Hey JR. My back will not let my look at a snow shovel, much less use one.  Undecided
