In front of the right side valve cover there are these wires... and they seem to go to the water pump area?

What are they for, and is there anything I need to do to make sure they stay protected?

One is the oil pressure sender. It triggers the warning light.

Tip: If you take that valve cover off make sure those wires are out of the way when you put the valve cover back on. They are easy to get pinched in the valve cover.
