After letting the Valk sit for over  2 years (due to sickness) i am now ready to ride again. Bike runs great on top end, idle speed not so much. Trying not to tear carbs apart, what does everyone use thats had this problem. Does Seafoam in a couple tanks of gas clear it up, or some other fixes without tearing into carbs.
Thanks

seafoam slowly eats away at the o-rings as does chemtool B12.

look into TC-W3, I've been using it for yrs. keeps everything clean including the ring packs

I know you posted about TC-W3 in the past but this evening I'm too lazy to go searching so I'll ask.  Grin
What is it and where do I get it? Is it the 2-cycle oil added to the gas, I kinda get confused(easy these days) reading about it.

I like Techron, it seems to work real nice. 1 oz per gallon I believe but I also add 1 extra ounce for the heck of it. Fresh fuel, fresh fuel fresh fuel is your best friend.

Run the bike like normal but definitely run the bike at low speeds for a while where possible and as long as possible.

I've been following 98valk's advice on using 1oz of 2-stroke oil to 5 gallons of gas for years now and have not experienced a carb problem since.

The TC-W3 is a synthetic oil, I believe, and not all 2-stroke oil is synthetic, so read the label  Smiley

I bought some 1oz glass bottles with screw on caps, put 4 in a small fishing lure plastic container and keep one in the bags of each Valk.

At fill up, I empty one of the bottles into the tank before filling.

It's habit now and works for me.

yes it is a modern 2-stoke oil. TC-W3 is the specification the oil must meet. I found it when I was searching for a gas lubricate for the needles in the needle wells, which can see lots of wear over the yrs. The needle wells are not replaceable in these carbs.
here is were I originally found out about TC-W3
https://www.ls1.com/forums/showthread.php?t=91206

https://www.nmma.org/certification/oil/tc-w3

""TC-W3® lubricant, an NMMA-owned trademark, has evolved over the years through much testing and research, and has proven to be the level of quality needed to satisfy the above objectives. And, going a step further, now that two-stroke engines have moved towards higher cylinder temperatures and compressions, this type of lubricant also helps to meet the EPA emissions reductions.

TC-W3® oils have demonstrated the necessary lubrication performance quality needed for these more demanding cylinder/engine conditions.

The TC-W3® oil standard is a performance-based qualification program. The requirements include various bench tests for fluidity, miscibility, rust, compatibility, etc., as well as engine tests to evaluate the prevention of ring sticking and carbon buildup on pistons and other engine parts. ""

yes it two-stoke oil with that specific specification. if the container doesn't have TC-W3 on it. don't use it for this application.

""Use 1oz of the two stroke oil per 5 gallons of gas ( 1oz-5gallons/ 2ozs - 10 gallons etc. and that is the perfect ratio. Too much and it will make your engine run worse....too little and it wont do anything.....use the proper amount.....get a little bottle and keep it in your car.....We have seen a maximum of 5% better MPG down to a minimum of 2% better MPG. All of our test mules reported much smoother idles and cruising. No smoking or ill effects. No residue on plugs our pistons....actually the opposite....we saw "cleaning".....I am now comfortable recommending this for all. I also now run this mixture in my GTO/Mercedes/Silverado and G6 with all having smoother running motors and all gaining MPG. Give it a try and let me know your experience. Follow the mixture ratio to the letter. 1 oz per 5 gallons of gas.""
