Sunday my son in law and I drove to Lowes for some doodad he needed on a plumbing project

He engaged the self driving  mode which is on some kind of free trial

Holy smokes that thing did a good job in NJ traffic

Even parked itself

The acceleration in a Tesla is fast but not in self driving mode  I would call it moderate
as if the goal is not to feel g forces that we all love if we ride bikes

Yup... driverless Tesla Robotaxis are already up and running in Austin. (There's a human in the passenger seat as a "safety observer" but that's due to regulation not operation. )

And of course, the true test of any new technology, the first porn filmed in a Tesla in self driving mode going down the highway was released a few years back...

In the PHX area, we have driverless cabs that use Jaguar SUVs. Still bizarre to see at a light.

BTW, there are now driver less 18 wheelers running I-45 between Dallas and Houston, day and night... With plans to expand further.

https://www.cbsnews.com/texas/news/driverless-semi-trucks-are-on-the-road-in-north-texas/

I keep telling the triplet don't even think about becoming a truck driver, that profession will be a niche one within a decade, IMHO...

I do not want a self driving car.

I have been a passenger in cars/trucks driven by others so little in my whole lifetime, I really don't like it at all.  I'm not a control freak, but I want to be the driver, not a passenger.  And I haven't had a moving violation in decades.

Teaching my wife to drive scared the hell out of me (it took a long time too), so that's probably got something to do with it.   Grin

I'm really confident in my wife's driving, except there are times I'm a bit more cautious than she is. I even let her drive our "new to us" Golf Station wagon (6 speed manual even) home from the dealer... I drove our other Golf home.

I'm not sure about self driving vehicles on the road, however....
