While no where near is nice and as large as Rams “Garage”, I have built two buildings. They are located on different parts of our 8 acres. The first is what I call a garage and the second I call a workshop. Each has two open “Carports” and an enclosed work area. The enclosed work area in the garage is for bikes. The enclosed area in the workshop is for building stuff. It has my welding equipment and cross cut saw along with other stuff. There is also a roll off roof observatory that was the first building I did on our land. But is is a more standard construction (except for the roll off roof). One of the neat things I really liked about the way they are built is that they are built with a “Frame”. The frame composed of 6”X6” pressure treated “beams”. There are four pieces of wood (not counting the cross supports. There are five pieces of welded steel structures that shape the layout of the beams.
These items are assembled on the ground and galvanized threaded screws are used to keep each assembly together using pre-shaped welded enclosures. They are they “raised” using a “T” shaped structure that has an opening at the top to trap a rope that is tied to top of the “structure”. The “T” structure is placed at a 45 degree angle and a rope is tied to the top part of the beam and, in my case, a tractor is used to raise the beam. The support rises as the beam assembly comes up. Because of the way the beam bottom mounts are made, once the beam has reached full vertical position it is blocked from going too far. Then 2x4’s are then used to hold the beam vertical unit it can be connected to the other beams making a fully support structure. Here is the smaller of the two “buildings. The 2x6’s running from end to end are held in place with brackets attacked to the 6x6 beams. The areas near the edge of the roof have additional wooden members. A view from one end showing the bolts on the metal and other pieces/parts. Also note (in the above image) the material under the metal roofing (this is the garage up by the house). I used plywood underlayment on the garage, none on the observatory and workshop and OSB for the underlayment for our house (it was a cost thing. I should have used plywood). Metal roofing materials (as you might have guessed) maybe installed in two ways. The first way I did it was on the Observatory building (see pictures below). It has a “roll off” roof. Then I did the same when I built the last of the three buildings (not counting the house), the Workshop. The building below is the final building. It has been named The Worskhop. Its where I now keep the tractor (where the white Ford Explorer is in the picture) and the things that I use to construct some smaller things. To the best of my knowledge, they no longer make or sell the metal “brackets” that were used to form the building frames as used.

OH, to the contrary it's got character and does what you intended it for. Very Impressive and you built it yourself! Yes, very impressive!! We all have different wants, desires and needs. It's those that step up and at least attempt it that deserve the respect and recognition of accomplishing such things. Very impressive structures. I'm sure it does for you what you need and intended it to be. But I still hold the opinion that one never builds a shop or storage shed big enough. Doesn't matter how big you plan on building it, it always (in the end) could have been just a bit bigger. Nice, very nice, I hope it's still big enough. Edited: BTW, I'm envious of those 8 acres. We tried to find more land but, what was available wasn't within my reach, folks with money moving out of Memphis getting most of it and what we could afford would have cost a fortune trying to make it into a decent home site. Every property we went to see was located in what would be considered a potential flood zone. Rams

Thank you for all the comments. I truly enjoyed making it happen. The dog is Zoe. She is about eight years old in that picture. Here is a better picture of her.

Rams The tour would be much appreciated, Rams, seriously, if I was going to build or order a workshop it would not be much different than the one you built. First though comes a bigger more rural piece of property then the workshop. Kind reminds me of the articles in Popular Science.

She's a cutie and alert, is she a poodle? I miss my dog and would love to have another but its like having a kid and really ties you down. Just not ready yet. Thanks for the picture.

She is known as a Shepa_Doddle. I have been told (by the breeder) that she is 3/4 German Sheppard and 1/4 Poddle. The Poddel is in the mix, I have been told, to minimze shedding.
The breeder does not have a large "area". The pups are and the parents are well cared for. Not a "Puppy Mill" my any stretch.

First though comes a bigger more rural piece of property then the workshop. Kind reminds me of the articles in Popular Science. Sir, those tours are available year-round. Every home hobbyist has their own ideas of what they want. I assure you, I didn't get everything on my wish list but, close enough to make me happy. I didn't want an all-metal structure but, when I saw the quote and the pricing of a stick-built was more than 2.5 times the cost of a a metal structure the same size, that made the decision. Was going to plumb the air compressor lines and put the compressor out back under the lean to. Decided to go with a hose real instead and leave the compressor inside but will modify the filter/air intake to a larger intake and I'm told that will greatly reduce the noise. Also wanted to put plywood on the interior walls but, will have to settle for sheet rock. Life is full of compromises is all I can say. But, this I will say, even though my floor could have looked better had I hired a professional to do it with all the knowledge, experience and equipment to make it look perfect. I'm good with what I did. The one thing I'm most grateful for though is that Roomba sweeper thing my wife got for me. I punch that button on it every time I go into the shop. Keeps my floor looking clean. Yep, that thing is a keeper (the Roomba and my wife). Regardless of all of that, the structure that Jim built is special because, he built it himself and I have a lot of respect for that. Rams

My neighbor across the street has a robot lawn mower (electric). It's about the size of a large bread box. No bag, it just clips the grass off. He has it out slowly wandering around his yard every other day or so, and I must say it does a pretty nice job. But the thing falls off the curb all the time and shuts off and just sits there. It was $1100 and one of these days someone is going to grab it. It's a lawn Roomba.

My understanding of those things is that they come with some kind of electric wire of some kind that the owner is supposed to put on property lines/edges of the property like along street curbs. That wire somehow tells the mower to not cross over. That one might not have that option. I know this, I have to make sure I have the garage door shut in my shop. The other day I found my Roomba sweeper outside sweeping the driveway. Was about two feet from some wet grass. I don't think getting into that grass would be a good thing. Rams

Actually he told me he's got some kind of GPS hookup and could find where it went. I asked him if he owned a firearm. He said he'd call the cops. Another neighbor on our corner is an attorney and his wife a teacher (so they have some money), but he lets his grass grow to field status, then goes out with an old beater of a push (non propelled) mower set too low and works his ass off pushing that thing and stalling it out. Leaving rows of cut grass like a hay field. He clearly hates his lawn... and punishes it.

The Sheppard Poodle mix breed varies, but I doubt yours is 3/4 Sheppard. More likely 3/4 Poodle and 1/4 Sheppard, though I'm no expert.
There are several of those that get walked by my house every day, and they are all well behaved. Unlike nearly all the nasty ankle biters.
There is one lady who walks the biggest purebred male Doberman I've ever seen; always on constant alert and never barks. Someone would have to be a complete idiot to giver her any trouble.

Actually I thought it was a German Sheppard - Poddle mix but I think I was mistaken. Appears to be a mix between an Old English Sheepdog and a Standard Poodle. So, I am probably wrong about the "mix" level. This is the place we purchased Zoe; Shannons-Shamrock-Kennels. If you look at the second picture from the top on the webpage, that is a Zoe look-a-like. https://shannons-shamrock-kennels.com
