Hi all,

Just had one of the headlights on my Interstate burn out…

What are most of you using for led replacements?

My memory is vague, but I think there's some older threads on here that say LEDs are nice and bright, but throw light all over the place, whereas the regular halogens direct better light to where hi and low beans are aimed.  I think that's what they said....  (search 'LED bulbs' on here)

Now my days of riding at night are over, so my lights are only to be seen not to see at night, so LEDS might be better at being seen.  But I like my radio, so maybe not.

The "dark spot" is inherit with side firing LED bulbs. Probably less with the Valks reflector but with smooth Shadow's reflectors, really prominent. Had a blue bulb in the Valk when I 1st. got it. Came home from work at night and encountered my usual deer "bystanders" and it made everything blue thus harder to detail/see whats ahead. Replaced with a Silverstar and HL adjustment up just like the 1100 Spirit.

I LED'ed both my Interstates when I had them and was very happy with the results, not just "Wow that's bright" in the garage but also for driving at night.

I did a "One LED one Halogen" comparison before finishing the job:

As far as the beams I didn't do a good job setting up a formal comparison, but the rear tire of the John Deere is halogen, the bad of dirt is LED:

Unfortunately the specific bulbs I used appear to no longer be available on Amazon, but they were "DZG H4 9003 HB2 HD1 6500K CREE" bulbs if any of that heps...

Heh... barely... I have to take the air filter out and shoot it with engine starter to get 'er running most weeks but once going it mows the lawn well enough...  The stabilizing wheel broke off the deck, and a few other issues but for a.... 16 year old mower  can't complain!

Oh, and related to the topic at hand! I DID replace the headlights on IT with LED when they burned out!

nothing runs like a Deere, or so says REB at least?   cooldude

If direct plug n play,  I would go LED over halogen, but I find the halogen bright enough for my needs.  Use to do a lot of night riding, but not much anymore as I age.

HayHauler and I have been fans of Cyclops Adventure Sports for more than a decade.  We've put their products in / on several bikes with zero problems.   coolsmiley

This H4 replacement has 10,000 lumens pulling 38 watts.   Shocked

That’s probably the one I tried… H4 10000 lumens…
Think I must’ve assumed low power draw led. 38a seems like a lot, but it needs a heat sink for a reason
If I decide to get super ambitious, I could solve the EM noise fee sure  cooldude

The Cyclops H4 10k bulb is 38 watts and the Silverstar H4 is 55 watts for comparison.  It draws less current, 3.1 amps versus 4.5 amps for the Silverstar.
Heard on one Inzane trip.....

"Did a 747 land on the highway behind us, or is that HayHauler?"  LOL

That looks like a really good LED option, I run something similar in my interstate, One thing I have learned over the years is don't cheap out when buying LED's.
A few years ago I was riding back from AZ and got caught in a snow / ice storm, my LED headlights on my interstate wouldn't melt the ice off the lens, but my buddy's interstate had stock bulbs and they produced enough heat to melt the ice off of his headlight.

Thanks all.

I ended up using BeamTech H4 bulbs off Amazon.  They are all aluminum construction and have built in heat sinks.  No flickering or interference with sound system. I did have to modify the rubber dust cover as the base was a bit thicker and had to break off the bottom 2 tabs to make em fit. But looks lighter and brighter.  I’d post pics but I forgot how.
