We have a tiny master bathroom. I think it’s called a split bath. Well that fiberglass tub shower combo thing had to go. Almost 40 years old, impossible to clean and just not good.

So I demolished it. Put new Sheetrock on the studs and the the kitchen and Bath folks got to work. Now we have s nice modern shower but the popcorn ceiling had to go!

So I’ve heard many times how easy it is to remove the popcorn. Well, yes it comes off easy but what’s left behind is not nice. The rest was not so easy.

So I had to mud coat the entire ceiling thankful it’s small. Then sand. OMG. Dust everywhere. Then prime and paint. Two coats primer one of paint. starting to look like we wanted. After I finish painting the walls then it’s remove the toilet and tile. Then reset the toilet and I’ll be done.

Man does that look great Jeff.   cooldude

My small master bath came in PINK.  Tile, tub, sink, even vinyl floor (pink and white design).  I've hated it for 30 years, but it was all in nice shape.  At least it's all a soft pale pink and not a hot pink.   crazy2

And my wife and I (when I had one) each had our own bathroom, so she got the pink one and I got the half bath with a shower stall downstairs, and that remains my principle bathroom.  I hate showering in a bathtub, and like a flat floor stall much better.  A few years ago, I redid MY bathroom with new tile, paint, trim and all fixtures to my liking (not fancy, but new and clean).

The pink one I pee in when I'm upstairs.   And the geniuses that designed it put a window in the shower wall.   Grin

Refreshed bathrooms ARE great - we did our masterbath last year to replace the bathtub with a walkin shower and complete repaint of the room.

OTOH - getting rid of popcorn ceiling SUCKS !!! Especially in a cathedral ceiling ( 12 feet at the top) !!!!

I started my basement bathroom remodel August of 2023, after I had completed all my upstairs bath remodels. It not 100% yet  crazy2 . But as an update I did take my first shower in there yesterday! Realistically there is only a couple of days work to finish everything up and I will get it done, but I’m the busiest retired person I know cooldude.

I did discover that my shower faucet is the scald proof model and it works! It’s just that I need a little more heat in my water, so I’ll have to adjust that.

In my defense, in 2024 my wife decided that tearing down most of our deck and rebuilding it was more important than finishing my bathroom remodel, then there was a leaking window that turned into a French door and so on.

I’m not too scared about putting tile down on that small floor but resetting the toilet is something I have never done.  Again…..lol….everyone says it’s easy

Every situation is different but there are some great new options for toilet installs. I have installed a couple of my toilets with waxless seals that makes the job much less tedious. There are also some relatively new options for toilet bolts and caps.

Everything is much easier the second time. The first time I changed a tire on my Valk, I followed the manual and removed the entire exhaust system. Then I found help online and realized how dumb that was.

I had to remove some popcorn ceiling many years ago so just got a light water spray attachment I hooked up to the sink faucet. Covered everything that was difficult to move and sprayed the ceiling. Once the popcorn was wet and left to soak for a time, I used a wide spatula mounted on a broom handle and scraped it off...came off quite easy and quite smooth. Only had to address a few spots with new mud. I did the kitchen, living room, and hallway in one afternoon. Waited for the next weekend to paint. Trying to scrape off popcorn when dry creates problems.

John, I wish it was that nice under the popcorn. I’m sure a drywall guy could have mudded that ceiling in 15 minutes and no sanding would have been required and he would have said it was easy. It took me longer. Sanding was required and I looked like the abominable snowman. But, it was worth it
