I lost my best friend today. Sorry for droning on, but I really feel the need to get this off my chest right now. My buddy and his wife were riding today, he was on his Goldwing Trike and she was following on her bike behind him when a cage made a left-hand turn right in front of him. He immediately hit on his brakes, but there was no way to avoid hitting the car. His wife called me because she was in a state of panic, and needed help and we weren't all that far away. When we had arrived at the scene, the paramedics had already moved him to the volunteer fire station which was only a few hundred yards away in order to Life Flight him to the hospital. At first, they (Texas State Troopers) couldn't tell us where they were taking him because they said that it would be up to the Life Flight crew. I told his wife that I would take her bike to our house, and then meet up her and my wife wherever they were taking him. They ended up taking him to Memorial Herman Hospital in Houston. When we arrived at the hospital, they informed us that his heart had stopped in the helicopter, but they were unable to revive him.

That’s a terrible story. You are a good friend. I can’t imagine what it was like for her seeing that unfold

So hard to lose a friend, especially in such an unnecessary way. It’s comforting to know you were able to show up for his family. I don’t know if we will ever be safe from distracted drivers again. I see near misses on a regular basis, many that involve myself in the scenario. God bless everyone involved as I’m sure their lives are forever changed.

Hate reading this. There is no doubt that congested roads and distracted drivers are making things a bit riskier for everyone traveling nowadays.  Prayers from Western Colorado for all involved.

It was a male, I'm guessing in his late 50's to early 60's. I saw the trooper talking to him, and then she had him sign something. I'm assuming that it was a citation for the causing the accident.
