Getting ready to pull the wheels off this new to me 2003 standard, using harbor freight lift.  Checking clearances and such as I've never used the lift before and I've never worked on a bike this heavy before.  Put the jack in from the right side, with the kickstand down (probably a mistake).  Jacked it up just to get the wheels to leave the floor to get a feel for how this was going to work, then let it back down.

Now, the kickstand will not stay in the up position.  It will gladly snap down and stay down, but it does not go up easy or stay up.  To me it looks like the top hook on the spring needs to go out further on the post.  Either that, or I have damaged the spring in some way.  The stand rotates exactly the same as it has and has the same limits, the spring just won't hold it up.

The spring is out of place.  It should come out to the recessed portion of the kick stand bolt.  It is pressed up against the mounting bracket.  I think it is hung up on something behind it, in the picture you show.  The bolt and spring seem to be undamaged.

Popped it back in place and it is back to working properly  cooldude  Thanks!

Is there a "best" way to get this thing up on the lift?  Like right side/left side or kickstand up/down?  I will pay closer attention to the kickstand now.

You need a lift adapter. There are instructions for making a wooden one.

I got one!  It appears that I missed the bit in the instructions that says to be sure not to contact the sidestand spring mount  Undecided
