Today, the wife and I were headed to a few different locations, we were traveling down a heavily traveled four lane state road and I observed two crotch rockets in the opposing lanes passing other vehicles in the inside emergency lane going at least double speed (my estimate) of the vehicles being passed. They were flying low. About two seconds later, I saw a single LEO coming fast behind them but no lights on (yet). Looked in my review mirror and the LEO had closed on the two bikes and lights were now on. We then went over the hill I had observed the bikes and LEO coming over but I lost sight of the impending action. My wife who was still watching also said the LEO passed the bikes with it's brake lights on. Figured that the last we'd see or hear of them. About half a mile from where all this occurred, we had to make a right turn and did so. Traveled about half a block and then heard the same two extremely loud bikes pass our intersection headed the opposite direction. They had apparently jumped the middle medium and pulled a U Turn. After hearing the exhaust and looked into my rearview mirror and saw the LEO chasing with his siren blaring. No real idea what happened after that but, my thoughts were it's bikers like that who make us all look bad to the average driver. A bit later in our journey, was passing through a couple of smaller towns and saw a bunch of LEOs at different intersections. Way more than usual, I have to assume to two idiots on two wheels got away. I don't feel sorry for those riders when they get caught or when they surpass their ability to stay upright. Some may not agree but, that's the way I see it. Rams

This is an old story... that continues to be true. All crotch rocket riders are not maniacs, but a good number are. The other thing about them is they often do not return a wave, even more than the Harley guys. We bad, we don't wave to nobody. You run (fleeing and eluding) from the cops around here, you're going to jail in cuffs if they catch you. I ended up riding with a VTX Honda and a dresser Hog today (for a while). Nice people. Their mission was lunch out. I never stop to eat when riding (never).

A guy I work with is an exception. He rode a "Busa" for 210,000 miles and covered most of the lower 48 states on that bike. That in itself is amazing, but he did it mostly at 5 above the speed limit. I couldn't run off and leave him on the Valkyrie. Hay Jimmyt

Well, not all that sure about that, I would agree that almost all the maniacs I see ride crotch rockets though. I rarely see anyone other riders on cruisers, trikes or sidecars riding like idiots. Although from time to time a V Twin will pass me with very loud exhaust blipping it as he/she goes by. I guess that's to tell me of their superiority. Rams

come to NJ. a few yrs ago, Tyrant Murph the governor changed the laws so now ANY 2 wheel motor vehicle can by ridden by ANY age rider on ANY street and/or sidewalk they want to and ANY time of the day. I got pulled over on my 3.5 HP mini-bike when I was 12. cop took it I had to walk home. Dad took me to the station to get it, funny it leaked a little oil all over the police station floors. as a 12 yr old I thought that was funny.
Dad said one thing to me, get rid of it. I said ok. It didn't run when I bought it from this other kid. sold it back to him and made a $10 dollar profit, since now I fixed it, carb issue and it ran.

I have no real concern about who is "giving us a bad name". Most drivers I encounter treat me with kindness and courtesy. There are exceptions. If there is a problem it is with people universalizing based upon a small exception (much like what the OP did with crotch rocket riders.).

The 'average" or less than "average" person ONLY sees a M/C! No clue as to make or style! I talked with some cage operators-aka steering wheel holders-when I wuz still wheelin big truck. So and so truck cut me off forced me to move over for his turn etc etc. Did you happen to catch company name and truck or trailer #? Maybe the 800 # on the trailer? Uh no BUT it wuz a big truck that hasseled me! Whether a zip splat or a full dresser they be showin out I'd rather NOT be involved. RIDE SAFE.

Its a self diminishing population, so no worries.
Riding in my car have been startled by them splitting lanes. So it draws peoples attention to motorcycles, that can not be all bad since maybe they will pay attention to the road more. Rather than cell phones, eating, conversing with the passenger without regard for the road, and generally doing 55 in the left lane.

The transgressions of youth, I hope I’m forgiven of the sins I commented on my H1 and gs 550, although these bikes in the last 25 years are extremely fast compared to 70’s bikes.
