The chrome cap should unscrew from the grip.  Using compressed air, and one of those pointy hose attachments, squirt air under the rubber portion of the grip.  Go at it from the grip end, and by the switch housing...  Sometimes it will puff the rubber up, releasing the glue, and they come right off.  Other times, a razor blade is your friend  Undecided

If you don't have compressed air, the best tool for getting grips off (you want to save) is an ice pick.  Screw caps off as above, slide the ice pick in, stick the thin nozzle on a can of WD 40 or brake cleaner alcohol in next to the ice pick and squirt.  Work at 12, 3, 6 and 9 O'clock till they come loose.  With the OE grips, I just take a utility knife and slice them lengthwise and throw them in the round file.  You'll want to reuse the OE throttle sleeve.

i got a bottle of WD-40, pushed the tube up as far as i could and sprayed, let it set for a few minutes, then twisted it back and fourth.  came right off with no problem.

make sure you clean off the WD-40 with some rubbing alchohol before reaplying the new grips.

al.

i went with the Kuryakyn Iso grips, love 'em.
