On my sons ranch in Menard Tx my son gave me the go ahead to take an Axis deer.  Cameras been showing 3 Axis deer at on location coming in regularly.   I came to that stand this morning on dry ground knowing major rain coming around 8:00am.  And here it is....it is coming a driving rain.  Just saw on weather report flash flood alert.   I have to cross a low water bridge on the San Saba River to go home Saturday....may be trapped for a while....awe shucks.... lets get the steaks out and fire up the pit you guys!!!!

I just ran into my neighbor Steve at the gas station, he lives about 1 east.
Steve asked permission to come into my yard to drag a deer out. He shot it behind his house and tracked it to mine. Told him”sure”, then said just bring your tractor & load it up. We’ll see if drives or trailers over.
He got 2 last night  cooldude   Shocked

Saw a rather nice 4 point mule deer and his lady friend in our neighbors back yard.  (mule deer one only count points on on side)    He and his friend stayed most of the day there.  He was safe from hunters and think he knew it.   2funny

I do not hunt deer any more . . . but I’m glad folks do.  In most of Minnesota the deer population is starting to get a little out of hand.  In northern MN the wolf population seems to keep the numbers in check but out side of that area it is a plenty.

One concern though is many hunters will only shoot a large buck, letting all the female does go.  So, the population just grows and grows.  They are beautiful animals no doubt about

Well....he outlasted me.  I gotta get home and help my wife get ready for Thanksgiving dinner at my house for around 30 people.

I mentioned a rather nice Mule deer in the neighborhood in post above.  Well this morning I was witness to another larger A-typical Mule deer buck.  He was standing about 10 yards from my kitchen window.  He was interested in a doe.  Then We, my DW and I, witness to a battle between the small 4 point mule buck and the bigger on.  They did clash several times in the neighbors yard.  Something one doesn't see every morning before breakfast.  After the smaller buck left the bigger on did walk off towards the direction the doe went.  He was limping a bit, so may have got poked.
that was great seein

I did quit hunting critters back in 1999, but really enjoy seeing these two  bucks.

for the price of meat in grocery stores,  surely pays to get back into deer hunting.  Now that can shoot rifle vs. long ago just shotgun in my county in WI,  should be easier pickins since rifle much more accurate after 100 yards.  Problem is finding land to hunt, public hunting can be sketchy.

Two guys were hunting deer and one bags a deer.  He asks the other guy to help him drag it out.  After a bit one says to the other that maybe they should pull it from the other end as the horns kept getting hung on the bushes.  They do that and in a short time one says to the other that he thought it was a good idea but they are getting farther away from the truck.....
