Sidecar fever? The space ship has landed!

I’m still waiting to see Rams finished sidecar rig, but I found one today that I think Alice would like a lot better than what Ron bought. Very stylish and easy entry and exit not matter your attire!

Was going to send pictures to you tomorrow afternoon just as soon as I pick my sidecar rig up at the paint shop.

Now, due to your suggestion, I have received instructions to reconfigure the sidecar.    Please forward plans with all details so I can get this done.   Will send pics when it’s completed.

Additionally, this major change may mean I’ll need financial assistance.   What’s your Financial Manager’s direct contact information?

I relayed this to my financial advisor, and she said that she would need to confer with Alice directly about her specific needs and desires, like will she want brake and steering overrides, how many cup holders, ect. You will have to depend on AI to develop plans and specifications because the originals were lost, destroyed in the early years of the Great Depression, when you were just a young boy!

OK, trying to meet my wife’s and John’s expectation and suggestions, I brought in several consultants the first being a fabricator, obviously the painter is involved, a couple structural engineers, an HVAC expert, a communications expert and NASA engineer, this is getting complicated.

No it’s not a Harley impersonator, Ron can’t get his painter to show up to finish the “loose ends” !

I like it. We need volunteers to ride in the sidecar for ballast so Ron can keep all three wheels on the ground

Ron, that fatboy "orange crush" is a home run.   

The rear fender sidecar wheel cover with big tail light is a great addition, having a light out there to warn everyone of the fatness.  And the headlight out front doing the same. 

I love it.  But I'm not sitting in it.   

In fairness, I never like to be a passenger with anyone, in any motorized conveyance.

If I were to rebuild it to F6John’s specifications it would be significantly different in appearance and function, not much chance of that happening.

A question.

If I was was riding in that sidecar, I'd want something solid to hold on to (not all the time, but probably once in a while).  And would a seat belt be a bad idea?  

Staying in the car is probably better than flying out of it.  (Thinking about collisions/accidents, going off the road, speed bumps, potholes, etc.)

Jess, I can’t honestly answer your questions.   There is a very secure foot bar that can be easily adjusted for different height(leg length) passengers.  There is not a bar to act as a hand hold.   I assume the passenger would hold onto the top/sides of the sidecar.   Having only sat in the sidecar while sitting in my shop, I didn’t think about that question.

To my knowledge, seat belts are not required in any side car but then neither are any of John’s recommendations.   . Helmets are required in TN.
Since I’ve never ridden in my sidecar, I will have to consider that when I find another rider I trust enough to operate the bike while I ride in the sidecar.  

While I do ride all of my Valkyries, they each require a different technique in riding style and effort.   Ride the two wheeled cruiser one way, the trike another and the sidecar rig in another way.   So far I have not taken out a single mailbox.

Well I certainly wasn't trying to imply risk to a sidecar passenger from your riding ability Ron.

Everyone knows (esp motorcycle riders) things just happen.

I know there's no seatbelt requirement but that doesn't mean it might not be a good idea.   Not trying to be grandma or a safety fanatic, but if I got in it, I think I'd wear one. 

Looking at that rig makes me wonder.  How wide does it measure all the way across?  Wider than an F250?  (my van is 80.3 inches/6.7 feet)

Squint real hard and you will be able to see just one of my suggestions for Ron. Just throw on some black paint and some pinstriping and you’re done! One of my earlier suggestions when we were questioning who if anyone would be riding in a sidecar. And………

Measured the widest part of the whole rig.   If the doors of you vehicle are those dimensions, my sidecar rig should fit through them.   It’s just a hair over 6 feet wide.

Looking at the pictures, it looks wider than my truck (especially the rear shot).

My rear doors are 3-4 inches inboard of the outside of the van.  (I'm sure it wouldn't fit).

The bike and sidecar would fit, but not hooked up.


When I got this van I had visions of loading (ramps) a bike and taking it longer distance than I would ride.  And having a place to sleep/camp in back too.  But that never happened, and never will.
