Hello again. I've been away for just over a year.
During that time I sold my bike above and bought a new Goldwing dct Tour ....

In the last year I did 9600 miles, including an epic trip around Switzerland,  Austria,  Italy,  France and Spain.  The bike has been brilliant with, as you would know, all the mod cons, but, I always highly rated my Valkyrie.  I missed it and it's come back up for sale in the Honda dealership I sold it to in part ex for the Wing. Whoever bought it is probably now doing the same thing and it's done 800 miles in the last year, with a total now of around 26,000. It had done 12,000 miles when I bought it.
I'm half thinking of contacting the dealer and now part exchanging the Wing for my old Valkyrie....the complete reverse of 12 months ago!
The Wing is probably better in every way and I may about to be incredibly foolish. One big thing I noticed was that many bikers wouldn't speak to me. I don't know why but when I had the Valkyrie loads of people would come over, taking pics etc.
What I need to know is, are parts for the Valk becoming rare? I know the engine is bullet proof so I'm not worried about that. I previously desmogged the bike but would need to re-purchase items like the cbr600 petcock etc.
I foolishly sold a new post 2000 seat, Kuryakyn pegs, chrome transmission covers, etc, plusa Digi-Sync carb synchroniser and Interstate Showa rear shocks, so I'd have to factor in the extra cost of these items.
It really is a quandary but I'm half thinking my long Continental trips are coming to an end and don’t really need the Goldwing anymore plus, if I sell it now at least I'll get a half decent price for it.
Any thoughts from you good people would be appreciated.

Is keeping both not viable?

Although I've moved to an '08 Wing for my traveling, I keep my '98 Valkyrie around for more around town stuff...

I still have the Valk, can enjoy it, but with far fewer miles being put on the need for parts is (theoretically) reduced, at least a little bit.

(Just have to be mindful of not falling into the trap of NOT riding it and just letting it sit and rot.)

Some places in the USA can always be found, but the UK will be much tougher.

I keep a parts Valk  around.

OEM/stock parts should be available for quite a while (IMHO).   We haven’t run out of bikes being crashed and will no doubt continue to have those available for parts into the future.   Many aftermarket items are no longer produced by those companies that did so in the past.

I currently have three Valkyries (cruiser, trike and Sidecar rig) I intend to keep them roadworthy until they are passed on after my demise.   Then my wife will most definitely put forsake signs on each one.  I can assure you that several of my Valkyrie friends have many more Valks then my meager fleet.

Generally speaking, I don’t let good used parts leave my shop but there are quite a few folks in our community that do part out Valks.

While I have considered a Wing, I really doubt I will ever pull the trigger and get one.   Nothing (in my opinion) can compare to the Valkyrie.

I love my Valks, they are some of the best bikes on the road, even at their advanced age.  Roll Eyes

I love my DCT more.

If possible, you should get the Valk back, keep the Wing, and see which one calls to you while you stand there with your helmet on.

With great sorrow, I would let 3 of my Valks go if needed.

Then, if it came to letting go my first born 99 Tourer purchased new or my 18 DCT Wing, I'd probably commit Hara-kiri instead.

I'm in agreement with the posts above, both is the answer.  Your Valk is beautiful BTW.

If it's possible for you to have both bikes, that is absolutely the way to go.

I have several Valkyries and a 2021 Goldwing Tour.

I love the Valks but there is no way that I'd get rid of the new wing for a Valkyrie.

Another point I'd like to make after re reading the OP, if a other motorcycle rider will not talk to you because of the model bike you ride, you don't want to talk to them anyways.

They'll have nothing to say worth wasting your time listening to.

Yes, thank you for that.
It's strange and I mentioned it to another guy who had a '21 Wing. I told him there was one thing I noticed about owning a Wing and he said, "I'll stop you there. I think I know what you're going to say....".
There you go. He'd had the same experience. I don't whether you'd experience this across the "pond", but it's almost as if some won't speak to you because you have that amount of money to spend on a Wing and they're proper bikers.
I probably haven't explained that very well and of course, not everyone is like it and it may be that Immaking too much of it.
Anyway, let's get back to the Valk vs Wing debate.
If I'm stopping my long distance touring (I may not but now in my mid 70's I'm thinking about it), I'd rather cash in now on my year old Wing, which could be a good price, rather than owning both.
Deep down I see the Wing as a far better bike in nearly every department but the Valkyrie holds a very special place for me.
I do have this feeling though that by riding it after the Wing it's going to feel a bit ancient, like comparing your old tv to the new one you bought.
There again, having the Valkyrie and money in the bank is also attractive.
Well, the dealer is closed until Saturday.  Gives me more time to think.
Thanks for your thoughts thus far, everyone.

Reference the bike(s), everyone has their own idea of what they like best.   I won’t knock your choice.    I (currently) would pick the Valkyrie hands down but I am one of those who like the KISS System.   Keep It Simple Stupid.

Reference those who don’t wave or speak, they are pretty much the same ones that always have to walk by (maybe even stop at a distance) and view my Fat Ladies.   Doesn’t matter to me, I see them looking, pointing and sometimes drooling.   2funny

Just in case anyone is still wondering.....

I've just paid the deposit and it will be heading back my way!

The Goldwing will be sold sometime soon.

I'm delighted to return to the Valkyrie clan.
