This was just north of Durango. We spent a night in Durango at the Caboose motel then left the next morning on hwy 160 into Arizona. Then turned north on 191 up to hwy 163. That carried us thru Monument Valley and into Kayenta where I had planned on staying the night.

I'm thinkin this one was in the 4 corners area

I figure this must be a creek bed 'cause of the lush green grass. We also crossed the Little Sandy Creek and the Big Sandy Creek. Aptly named 'cause there was nothing but sand in the creek bed. My photographer failed to get a pic of either. ??? Check out the sun on the distant hills.

OK, I had to include one of me occupying space in 4 states at once. The Four Corners, Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.

Kinda otherworldly looking. Well it is to someone who has spent all his life surrounded by lush green hills and mountains.

I knew we were getting close to Monument Valley now. This isn't part of it but I liked it.

Great photos....just curious if you took US Route 163 out of Kayenta toward US Route 181?  This stretch of road is on my bucket list.  I first became aware of it when I watched the movie "Forrest Gump".

One of my favorite places that I visited.  Would love to go back there.

There's a place where you can occupy space in South Carolina, North Carolina and Georgia all at the same time, but
you can't get there on a Valkyrie...

I think maybe you meant US 191 ??? Looked on my maps and don't see a 181. For that stretch of rd headed in that same direction (as in your pic) we were headed east on US 160 out of Colorado. In AZ I turned north on US 191 and rode that up to 163 in Utah (unsure if 163 is US or not). Turned left on 163 which took us south by southwest thru Mexican Hat and Monument Valley into Kayenta. The pic you posted above is taken from 163 headed south into Monument Valley. Hope this helps.
My photographer took our pic of that view from the pillion while we were rolling down the hwy at 65mph or better so hers is a bit skewed. Don't tell her I said that.

Hwy 160 heading west. Not sure exactly where but somewhere in CO or AZ

I like this one taken along the way. The rocks look like they have hair (or fungus) growing on top.

You are absolutely correct Normandog it is US 191, I "fat-fingered" the 8 instead of the 9.  However, I did not realize that this view is coming from the North traveling South on US 163; thanks for the clarification....otherwise I might have missed it when I eventually get there!

It has been a while... I don't remember if we left our cars at the fish hatchery, or in some dismal
side-of-the-road place you'd never want to leave the Valks... walking way back in there to the
rock and then finding a place to set up camp was all we did, but if you weren't carrying a
heavy pack, somewhere between 1 and 3 hours might be all the walking you'd have to do
to get in and out again... when I googled "ellicott rock trail" I found descriptions of how to
get there from more than one starting-point/state, heck it might be a five minute walk from some
trail-head in Georgia for all I know...

Cant get a bad picture in that area. Unless ya gotchur thumb over the lens.  we went through there 2 years ago and its stunning. Monsoon time ,late june/early August afternoon will give cloud formations you wont believe. Also ,unfortunatly, 3 inches-o-rain inna very short period of time.
Go! Do it.

There are something close to forty places on the continental U.S. that one could be in three states at once.  There is only one spot that one can be in four.

On the way to Inzane last year, me and Cheryl rode up through Monument Valley (coming from Phoenix).  Took 163 from Kayenta, then stayed on 163 up to Mexican Hat, then took Indian roads across the back country to Cortez.  It was awesome.

I though this picture was interesting - they had just paved the parking lot at the hotel thats at the entrance - I think its Navajo-owned.  The hotel actually blends in with the surroundings, the new curb though with the valley as a backdrop was somewhat of a dichotomy

Aint that place awesome RP ? Nice pics. I took the Valk on the rd. the Navajo's were charging 39 bucks a head to haul you thru there in the back of a pick-up. Not a rd made for a heavy cruiser loaded with luggage and a wife.  Grin
When you say "Indian roads", do you mean dirt roads ? Saw some dirt rds that turned off the main hwy that were tempting.

We managed to stay on paved roads the whole time.  From Bluff, we took Mission Rd (UT 162), then Ismay Trading Post Rd at Aneth, then Indian Rt 5068.  Had to dodge some wild horses standing out in the middle of the road but it was great countryside and not much traffic.

Thanks for all the great shots you guys, I love that part of the country.  Still kicking myself for only having a disposable film camera last time I rode there.
