I have removed this original item, because I never intended it to be a political post. I was attempting to illustrate how my thinking runs, as I wander around our great land... Sorry if I have crossed a line...

My advice to you is you should put on a g-string and stand by the road and protest the ice and cold. Folks would likely put dollar bills in your g-string either hoping you stop or encouraging you to keep going. This way you'd be a paid protester as well. IF YOU START TODAY, You would need to continue for at least 6 more weeks and I'm sure you will be successful. If you don't it might be an early spring but you'll make no money. I bet a bunch here would pay to watch, so that is the incentive.

My current ICE situation is now officially a solid week old. I’m not talking packed snow, I’m talking official verified ice. My neighbor must have reached his limit today. His seemingly official handyman showed up this morning with a pic axe and started swinging. I’m not there yet even though my 4x4 truck had a problem navigating my sloped driveway yesterday. As I backed out of the garage, I applied the brakes and continued going backwards, shifting to drive didn’t particularly stop the backward movement but added a sideways transition. It wasn’t until I slid off the ice covered concrete that I had any traction or directional control at all. Once I was in my yard with all four wheels was the truck amble to break through the ice and I made my way to the street which has been cleared for days now. I haven’t had mail delivery for a week which is no big loss but my trash pick up service finally came this morning.
I have power, I have heat, I have food, both frozen and fresh, the internet is still streaming, what more could I ask for while surrounded by ice and snow?

Sorry to learn of your iceboundedness
What frosted my toes here at home was that we had a water pipe break in the street just two doors from my home
So we had no water for days and ice flow in the street right in front of my house making walking to the mailbox an adventure.
Fortunately I was able to shovel out to the hot tub as it was just 2feet of snow accumulated there and I filled numerous gallon water bottles for use in the toilet ( 1 gal flush = 1 bottle) Also helped my neighbor out as he has 2 young girls and well, they need to go when they need to go
fortunately Bonnie was visiting her parents, my son and 2 of my grandsons in Seattle so she was not impacted at all.
The work finished before I had to pick her up yesterday evening in Newark NJ Town said no need to boil water so I did not do so

Well, I do appreciate a good sense of humor, I have to honestly admit that I did not need that picture in my head. Bruce is welcome at my Homestead if and when he ever decides to come this way. But I truly hope he’s wearing more than you described. Rams

Hey Bruce, come on back home. We're down here for a couple months and did bring a bit of cool weather with us. However it will be back in the mid-upper 70s by end of the week. I know I'm looking forward to it, only been able to wear shorts & polo shirt one day since 1/25. We want to find a place on the Gulf to use most of March & possibly reserve for next year. Places are available in Siesta Key area but $$$. So head home for a time, you and I both know where the good BBQ is.

His seemingly official handyman showed up this morning with a pic axe and started swinging. That is identical to my situation John. I've never hired anyone to help with snow/ice removal in my life. But I did today, because what I have is simply beyond my ability to do myself. And they went at it with a mattock (flat pic). They said they didn't want to damage my concrete, and I told them I was doing my driveway, but the public sidewalk was county (easement) property and they could beat it to death for all I cared. I used a long handle scraper on my driveway (all afternoon), and only did 60 feet of 2 foot wide walk path (so I don't slip and fall on my ass anymore). They'll be back tomorrow, and maybe the day after and I'll be working right along with them. A week of sub freezing weather and sun only made the ice harder, but now we're getting above freezing during the day this week, so it's not melting but we're making slow headway.

John,
I'm toying with the idea of returning to my daughter's place in Winter Springs to pay the annual tribute due to Uncle Sam... more precisely to file my return as all my forms come to her/my mailing address there. I had been thinking of having her mail the paperwork/forms to my friend in Montgomery, so I could pick them up from him when I go there for yet another routine urologist visit on 2/17. I often do that...
The thought of meeting you and Nanners for some Q, though, is tempting me in no small way to alter my non-plan! I talked to her today, and she is all for me dropping by, so... If I do, I won't be staying more than a day or two - weather, ya know, will heavily influence that. When I leave her place, there is a good chance I'll be riding up through Chiefland... right by BBQ Bill's joint... Where will y'all be around February 21 - 25th? All counter offers would be carefully considered! I do strongly prefer to avoid high traffic areas and routes, however, but other than that... What say ye?

We're in Sanford, sorta next door to Winter Springs. My granddaughter & hubby have a small RV camper parked next to their house so that's where staying. I'll PM my phone to you, it's still my old Florida number so you can call when/if in the area.

John,
I got your PM and entered your phone number in my directory. Yes! Sanford is right next door! I'm looking forward to probably seeing y'all in a couple of weeks... If y'all don't move or my non-plan doesn't change... again... it'll be fun making this happen! One thing is pretty certain, though... I do definitely plan to do my taxes somewhere!!!

Cookie,
I'm glad you noticed the deliberate overlapping/combining of unrelated points in my post. I'd wondered if perhaps I'd been too subtle, or maybe my writing had just appeared disjointed and out-of-whack. For this old guy out of the mainstream, there is plenty of time to ponder deeply serious issues and to consider all sides and the implications of all choices. To consider the moral, pragmatic, economic, and social downstream effects. There is no pressure for me to quickly solve this, so I refrain from jumping to one position or another...
What I miss from the discussion is a broad, open-minded dialog on this heart-wrenching, for me at least, major issue of our time: Something more than point and counter point diatribes... Oh well, I'll just keep on pondering in solitude, I reckon...

If discussing the topic of ICE is on your mind this should be bounced over to the P&M board. Many don’t find it heart wrenching. As a second generation Italian married to a second generation Irish woman with many relatives on both sides as well as friends who are second generation find what’s happening justified. Most of us find this highly offensive and disrespectful to all those who went through the process of becoming American citizens properly. Those who have gone through the process have tried to be vocal on the subject but get overlooked and dismissed which is an indication of that train of thought doesn’t really matter because it doesn’t fit with the narrative and the agenda. One thing is for certain, as with any other police activity whether it’s a simple shoplifting arrest, a trooper on the side of a highway doing a traffic stop or a warrant for any crime being served you do not interfere or insert yourself into a police action and expect a gentle response from law enforcement. I don’t see where it says obstructing and physically interfering with “La Migra” has suddenly become an acceptable option. Immigration officers have been working in this nation for a long long time. Now we have so called workshops (being run or encouraged by politicians) on how to interfere (basically obstruction of justice and/or worse) with ICE, what’s next how to interfere the arrest of sexual predators, the drug dealer next door, a car thief or the murder down the street which by coincidence just happens to be who the primary targets are. Are we now allowed to pick and choose which crimes are now protected and criminals deserve our support. It doesn’t matter if some of there people are “the nicest people” you can meet or “they’re the quite ones who keep to themselves”, that can be said for many of the worst murders we’ve ever had in this country as well as those who’ve committed serious crimes. If some so-called innocent people are being caught up in this, well stuff happens and it probably gets worked out. I will say if I was a legal immigrant and seeing what is happening and knowing ICE and Border Control are/could be operating in my area I’d be sure to have multiple copies of all my documents and documents of any family member in my home, on my person as well as on my phone at all times. It sounds like a pain in the neck but it is what it is for right now.
