I'm replacing the vacuum lead oem petcock with the manual cbr600 one. I know that the manual cbr600 petcock's screen filter is too long and when you fit it you know it's going to hit the top of the tank and bend over a bit but does that really matter?
I know some would say that you can just swap the original filter over but the bottom of mine is a bit scraggy and I'd rather not use it.

I have no idea and can’t help with your question but I do wonder if this change will affect the tanks reserve capacity?

It will but that's not a problem. I know the mileage range of a full tank so whether there's a Reserve or even no Reserve, that's not a problem.

Well, it’s always nice to know how much reserve one has just in case.   Ever pushed a Valkyrie up a hill?

The amount of reserve is determined by the height of the brass stand pipe inside the filter. You could compare the CBR 600 to the Valkyrie stand pipe height. I don't have a Valkyrie petcock other than the leaking one on the bike. Before I replace it I will be comparing the 2.

I would use the OEM Screen.

I am using the CBR600 F3 petcock, comparing it to my OEM Interstate petcock, the CBR600 was shorter. I have a little less reserve, but that never bothered me.
You should compare your OEM to the new one and make them the same, you don't want to bend it or your tank when you tighten everything up.

This I already knew, was hoping you might have compared the two which would be an indicator.   Sorry I didn’t clarify.
