WELL !!  To make a long story short.  November 2008 my Girlfriend and I decided to take a 3 week motorcycle trip in August 2009. I have 9 motorcycles (mostly older British), so nothing I could do a trip of this magnitude with. So after looking at all my options (Goldwings, BMWs, Etc.) I decided on a Black 1999 I/S, 10300mi. After spending the next 7mos. planning the trip ( room reservations at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, The View at Monument Valley, Yellowstone, Glacier National Park Etc.) I had the bike shipped to Las Vegas, Our plan was to spend 3 days in Vegas, then 3 more weeks on the road ending in Rapid City SD (my girlfriend was going to fly home from their and I was going to ride the Valk back to FL) We left Vegas Aug 1st at about 8am as planned and about 8 mi out of town the bike just acted like it was running out of gas. I pulled into a 7-11 and started to investigate, I had fuel I had spark, but the left side exhaust was cold when running. After checking the timing belts etc. I finally pulled off the valve cover, and discovered the cam broken between the first journel and the first lobe. After I got the Valk back home I took the cam out and noticed that where the break is that their was a flaw in the casting, it was probably cracked for a while, but decided to rear it's ugly head at the worst time. I'm still depressed over it!!!

Thanks for the info, that certainly rates as a bit different.
