Is there any link on the archives for installing on the I/S? The hookup to the carbs would be the same, but mounting the actuator would be different. I plan on using two vac ports directly, and no vacuum cannister.

both the same way as far as the location of the control unit. I put it where the tool kit used to live, had to do some dremel work and enlarge the area. I used 3 vacuum ports with check valves and a vacuum cannister on both. I understand that some have had good luck without the vacuum cannister.

If you cant go in the battery box- We put one in the fairing. Take the left wing off and you will be able to see up there. We wrapped it with bubble wrap to avoid bouncing around. We slid it right up there and then ran the cable to the carbs. If you look under the handle bar clamp you will see a little rubber flap. Its been a year since I did one on a I/S and trying to remember what it looks like up there but when you take the tank and wing off you will see a spot to slide it into. This is far easier to work on instead of taking the whole fairing off. If I had a fairing pic I might remember!

Fudgie: Did you fasten it in there? You just mention bubble wrap. Or is it just wedged in? Cable comes back thru the neck area then?

On an I/S, do you still hook up to a coil? Or do you hook into the elec. speed sensor wire from the front wheel? And if so, how?

I'm trying to remember since I dont have a I/S.  Yes it just wedged up there. It shouldn't move around since its just the right size for the servo unit. I 'think' we ran the cable/hose thru the little rubber flab. You should see when your in there which is the best without kinking. It works better in there so if you do need to flip dip switched you dont have to pull the whole fairing off, just the wing. I'm sure we hooked it up to the coil on the clutch side right under the tank on the frame. I know I did on mine. I believe we pulled the wire from the coil, not spark wire, it has a spade type connector on it, stripped the cc wire and slid it inside the spade. Tight fit and holds good. Once you start doing it, it becomes easy. I'm not good with electronics and it was pretty simple once I got going.

It's not that hard to get the fairing cover apart. My servo is wire tied to the fairing support horizonal member

Thanks for the great pic, Kingbee. I think I am just going with a couple ports tee'd together, with individual check valves. Seems like a number here have done that, and it works, instead of the cannister.

If my rememberer is working right, each coil has a wire that is yellow and another color. Pick one of those wires. I stripped some insulation off and soldered to that wire with appropriate insulation when finished.

Plenty of room under fairing. I mounted the servo and a canister with large wire ties on the clutch side under my fairing. I've done two I/S and both were mounted this way.

My question is if it's okay for the controls to get wet? often times i'll ride my cycle to work and it'll rain during the day, will this effect the hand control unit?

If you seal it like as described in shop talk. Mine barley gets a drip on while riding. Only gets wet when stopped or washed. Ive had it 20k+ miles and some hellacious storms and all is good.

Most are connecting to the coils with the audiovox. I used that approach and it worked fine. With the Rostra? I connected to the speed sensor.
The two fairing side covers and the dash panel come off very easily and you will then have great access under the fairing. I think five bolts on each panel and 6 on the dash panel, plus the electrical plugs for each.
BTW, I now have a throttle lock as I've had two audiovoxes and one Rostra? fail. Love the way they work, when they worked. Apparently, just my experience though as many have had no problems.
