Anyone have a recommended site to buy I/S springs for while I am in working on putting 38's in?

Also, a recommended gauge kit for when I sync my carbs.

thanks

I would say go to Direct Line Parts for the springs.  Item Number 11 (Click here)

As for a gauge set, I built my own.

The only thing I wished I had done was put small valves at the inlets of the tubing so I can shut off each runner.  I use hemostats now.  Check with your local Grainger or similar store for the vacuum gauge.   Also make sure you put a small needle valve under the gauge so you can adjust out the pulses.

I know that Dag has a 6 gauge setup.

A little clarification, I looked at the Shoptalk, and didn't see anything about changing the springs, but looking at the Fiche, I assume you can get that done by taking off the tops of the carbs? Correct me if I'm wrong please!

You are right.  The springs can be replaced with the carbs still on the bike.  All you have to do is remove the 3 screws per carb that hold the top on the carbs.  Be VERY careful when putting the top back on.  The diaphragm is very thin and can rip/tear very easily.

The fun is going to be putting the slow jets in.

I checked Grainger, looks like 14-16 bucks per gauge.
That's for liquid filled like Dag's. He has said you don't need to worry about adjusting out the pulses as the liquid gauges don't have that issue.
In the carb sync video on his web site the gauges don't appear to fluctuate.
I sync-ed mine a month or so ago with a borrowed 6pack guage set and did have to deal with needle fluctuation-a bit of a pain.

OK, I changed them in both my Valks but I can't seem to remember if they're
shorter or just a lighter spring. uglystupid2 It's worth the few bucks and
few minutes to change them out. Not a major difference but noticable.

Check Step number 7 here on chet's site for installation of the I/S Springs. They are a little shorter but more coils. As far as the difference goes? Enough of a better throttle response to provide an 8 on the Grin Factor! Simple procedure as long as you don't drop a screw. A single beer job. cooldude
