Found out what was causing the clicking in the rear of my '99 Standard.
 
The oil looked really gray and grainy.  After pulling it off and attempting to clean/flush it out on the bench with some clean oil I  noticed a 1/2 ring looking thing sitting on the gears.  After looking through the manual the best I can tell it's part of either the wave washer or the ring gear shim.  The gray oil, which is metal shavings, probably came from this thing running around between the gears and the housing, scraping the inside of the housing.  Which I'm sure is all through the bearings by now.

I noticed looking through the manual that there needs to be a whole toolbox full of special tools to rebuild this thing.

AS I see it my options are:

Take this to a dealer or bike mechanic and see what it will cost to fix or look here or on ebay for a used one.

Pinwall has 4-5 of them listed from $50 - $190 with 50K - 90K miles. But you kinda wonder what your buying.

Any suggestions??

One other thing, would one from a Goldwing work/fit?

Second that, got one from Pinwall for a friend, I don't think you will go wrong, and save a lot of time.

Second that, got one from Pinwall for a friend, I don't think you will go wrong, and save a lot of time.

I got mine from Pinwall... the only bad thing I know of that anyone ever got from Pinwall was quickly
replaced with a good one... they'll fix you up...

I vote for "they're all the same"  Wink I have a 97 Tourer, I think mine came from a Interstate... it is a good
question to ask, because there are some common parts that are not interchangeable...

The only difference I've seen is that some models/year are polished and clear coated and all other are painted silver.

I bought one off e-bay awhile back for 178 bucks with the flange. It was in perfect shape with 16K on it. It was from some one triking a valk. All I heard about pinwall was only good reviews.

Wow! what a deal you got.

I've been looking and the only thing there now is from Pinwall but at much higher mileage and a bit more costly.

I just took it to a guy last night that used to work at the local Honda dealer as a mechanic and does bike work part time out of his garage.  He's done work on a Honda 3-whlr for me and seems to know what he is doing cause this thing never ran that good since I had it.

When I told him I was looking at some final drives on ebay for $180 that had 50-60K miles he thought that was way too much.

Got my fingers crossed!!

I bid on many final drives before I got this one. Timing seems to more than anything on getting a deal. Sometimes the time of day and the day of the week bidding ends  will make a big difference in price.
