Hi all,
I have a 99 interstate. I am in desperate need of changing my handlebars to a closer and more narrow spread. I put on risers, but  still need to bring in and narrow my grip. I am not all that large and find riding for any length of time tiring.
If you have had any experience with this please let me know.
Also, i am new to this sight. How do i check responses.

David,

You could change to the standard/tourer bars. They are different and will fit without any fitment issues.

Of course there are many other brands of 1" bars by makers like K&N, Flanders, Emgo, Barons, and many others, but you may just try to loosen the handelbar clamp and slightly rotate your bars forward or reward to find a more comfortable position for you.

Good Luck

Standard/Tourer handlebars are actually 1/4" longer/wider than IS bars (1/8" on each side... Duh).

This is an issue that comes up from time to time.  A few have changed out to a (no riser) drag bar with a straighter profile grip and shorter/narrower bar, but the problem is finding one that has the rise (6-8") and pullback (14" or more) you need with the Honda 100mm/4" riser spacing (not the 3.5" Harley/Kawasaki riser spacing).  Then you have to measure for longer cables and hoses, and get it right the first time.

It is said the Yamaha Venture handlebars are very similar to Valk dimensions, but an inch or so narrower... hardly seems worth it.

If I could get set of drag bars that fit me perfectly and I knew the correct length hoses and cables to get in stainless braid, I would do it.  I have looked (over the years, not lately), but cannot find anything that comes close.  It might look a little strange on the IS with fairing, but I think it would improve handling and comfort for me at 5'9", and also think it would be easier to countersteer the darkside tire with them too.   It's a big expense and a fair amount of work to experiment.
