Can anyone tell me the approximate thickness on a set of rear brake pads on a '99 Standard?

As I'm doing the rear wheel/drive work I noticed the pads are quite thin, but I also thought that on my Suzuki and purchased a set and when I went to install them, at 24K miles, the original pads looked almost as good (thickness) as the new ones.  This Valk has 17K, could it be possible for a new set already?

That looks like plenty of pad!

This is getting a bit thin though...

Thanks guys.

Yeah, mine looks closer to the lower picture, not quite that bad but way closer to that then the top one.

I'm now wondering if this bike only has the 17K and if it was a good deal.  Could be this guy was a novice biker and habitually only used the rear brake for stopping.  Need to check the front, that should tell me.

The fronts are half as thick as the backs, even when new. Look for the lines cut into the pad...that's the wear indicator. As long as there are lines, well...ya know.

17k's not unusual for back brake replacement. Depends on where you ride I guess. I ride in Dallas, where you are hard on the brakes when you're not hard on the gas. They go quicker under aggressive riding. I tend to get 20k (ish) on a set.

I know you're talking about the fronts here... the lines on the back go pretty much all the way to
metal... you wear the lines off on the back and you get... well...   Wink

Hey, being the cheap Bohemian I am I'm always up to save money.

How do you save money on Interstate pads? Or they less expensive, last longer, etc...?
