I know some of you have done this conversation.  Assuming I can find a reasonably priced trunk, what modifications would be nessasary?  Would a Ultimate bigboy passenger seat preclude me from even attempting such a endeavor? My inquiring mind wants to know.

You need IS fender rails to get the right mount brackets.

You will need the I/S fender rails, to attach the trunk to the bike.  Bill (Big BF) has a great picture set, on how to do the quick release mod ( http://bigbf.com/bigbf_shop/mod_i-s_trunk/send_bracket/ ).

Your Ultimate Passenger seat will be no problem, as that is what I have.

Everything will mount up without a problem except...the Passenger Seat bracket on the crossbar of the trunk.  You will need to trim about 1/2" or so off of it so it will clear your taillight.

Running the wiring for the trunk taillights will be fairly easy.  You will have to trim the connector off the end of the wire and put in jumpers on the stock wiring harness.  I would suggest not using the wire-splicing-devil-spawn little devices that slip over the wires and cut into them to make contact.  I have used crimp on connectors for all my re-wiring of late.  (Soldering is best but not too many connectors do that these days.)
