Im on the Valkyrie, gettin ready to turn left (two lanes turning left onto a main highway).  The car next to me is a classic redneck woman driving a very nice Cutlass with the man holding the baby in the back seat.  No baby seat, none had seatbelts.  Both smoking cigs and looking like they missed their bath last month.  Ok, so a City Cop pulls in behind me and I know he gets an eyeful of these obviously very safe drivers next to me.

Light turns green and I dont believe it.......ARE YOU KIDDING ME...The woman is trying to beat me around the corner.  So I twist it a tad, just enough to stay out in front of her and get to 45mph  as soon as I can then level off as that is the posted speed limit.  Of course she either didnt notice the cop behind me or forgot with all the excitement...she continues on to at least 55mph at which time the blue lights come on.....yep hes got her......Finally the cops are there when you say "Where are the cops to get these idiots"

He probably got her for speeding no seatbelts, no baby seat, no shoes and no teeth.......thats if she even had a licence, registration and insurance (probably not)  crazy2  2funny

The saddest fact you pointed out there was Child .  Not only the disregard ,by them, for the child's safety or the fact that the child will learn similar behavior and attitude from them but the worst part IMHO is that they reproduced period!

I'm sure she had a whole other outlook to it than you did. all the tax money going to that cops salary could have been used to buy her some damn Obama care and a freakin child seat, now she has to pay some stupid fine that they are both convinced will go directly towards paying for some judges new Mercedes!  you cant fix stupid, but DAMN IT tickedoff, society seems to be encouraging it and now the Gov't is too!  Sad

Aaaahhh shucks Chris.   I can remember riding in my mothers' arms IN THE FRONT SEAT when I was a tadpole and no one was wearing belts back then.    Of course, we all bathed regularly - even if we all shared the same tub full of water.   Shoot, dad even let me ride in the bed of the Ford pickup truck on occasion.      I don't know how I ever lived to be this old.    2funny

The real problem here is that those parents couldn't figure out how to put a helmet on the mutt and sit him between them on the seat of their own Honda since it was obviously nice enough to be riding.  crazy2

Ya.....me too riding on the tailgait of the old station wagon and tons of us in the back of the old pickup.....but the times they are a changin.........more cars faster faster all the time law suits everywhere fines for pickin yer nose in the wrong place........if we have to have rules its nice to see good ones being inforced on blatant offenders rather than dumb technicalities like going 3 mph over (23 in a 20) at 0200 in the morning in a school zone that didnt happen to post times or a light so it was 20 all the time.....reason....get this..........drunks cross there coming home from the bar...........that happened to me once

Got nearly myself a ticket one night for "impeding traffic".  That's what Barnie Fife called it when I slowed my Yamaha drastically upon entering the zone he was speedgun checking with radar.   He didn't like the fact that I honked and waved at him as he was hiding in a driveway, backed up behind some bushes.  My detector had been singing his presence for nearly 10 blocks (in town in a 30mph zone).  My friends in the car behind me were also honking and waiving.   We were the ONLY TWO VEHICLES still out at that hour.  I refused to sign a ticket that stupid.  I went to jail (though technically not arrested) over that incident.   The night captain came in and wanted to know "what the h377 are you doing wrong tonight Ray".  When he found out the charges he reprimanded ole Barney (Ray) and ordered him to come into the next room and release me.  I thanked the Captian, called BArney a F'ing D*&k Smack and walked.  (I was 19 yrs old at the time.)  Barney was later fired for a long list of equally stupid happenings.

Gee when I was a kid we would take turns laying up in the back window and when would have to

stop fast we would fly out of the back window into the seat and holler do it again daddy.

Riding in the back of a pickup, now that's fun.

And the School Buses still don't have seat belts in our county.

Bike Helmets, if they were available back in my day, you would probably get beat up for wering one

of those.

Dad would even take the seat belts out of our cars so they would not be in the way.

Times they change and keeping kids safe is good but my gosh it gets pretty compicated till

life ain't no fun anymore.

I hate the nanny state as much as anyone... but the carseat laws are pretty good ones.

I remember riding in the car with the parents smoking.  It was awful.  To this day... I have never even tried one of those nasty things.  That said... I fight for smokers rights, and think that smoking bans are crap.
