I was looking at maintenance for the ST1300 & Goldwing as possible addition to my Vakyrie in the case of the "ST" or replacement if I go the big bucks for a "Wing".
Holy mackeral you shpuld see what you have to take apart to get an air filter into a 1800 Wing.
Starting with screws behind speaker grilles, several cover/fairing layers , harness plugs, remove ECU, etc.
Looked like an all day job, wicked !
I'm way too use to working on my Valkyrie

Yupper, ya got to start takin TupperWare off and that usually adds 2 to 3 hours to almost any work on the big girl..

But to make up for that, you can have the rear tire off in less than 5 minutes.

ST1300 air filter replacement is a doddle.

Remove seat, loosen bolt across rear of tank, remove 2 screws up by the head and pull tank back slightly and then lift the tank up.

Remove air box screws, replace filter and reinstall all the other bits.

I'm gonna try to weasle me a test ride on the ST1300 (not just because of the air filter) - thanks Britman that filter change procudure on the 1300 sounds as easy as on the Valkyrie.

If you're familiar with tools and have a service manual, the Wing filter change isn't that bad. Newcomers might take 2-4 hours, but after the first time, less than 2 hours should do it.

Rear tire on the Valk is a pretty quick project if you get her rear up high

Spousal unit keeps bothering me about wrenching on her ST1300... I HATE doing ANYTHING to that bike. Seems anything ya' do ya' gotta spend a few hours removing and replacing tupperware...

Don't misunderestimate me, it's a GREAT bike, and FUN to ride, but I won't wrench on it...

Finally told her, if she'd remove the tupperware down to the point of whatever it is I need to do, I'll do the real work, then she can put the tupperware back...

Funny, after I made that offer, she just takes it to the dealer for service now...

I removed  the internal fairing parts at the front soon after I got my bike. Let's more air through and speeds up any wrench time.
