I was writing a short story the other day, set in Texas, and I wanted my character to light a cig. It occurred to me later that I didn't know if Texas still allowed smoking inside public places. Several states (including NC recently) have banned that. My bet is that Texas bars still have smoke. But I wanted to fact check it.
So, can you still smoke in a bar in Texas?

Thus far it's city by city... Most of the bigger cities have banned it (Including Dallas), but there are still some cities that have indoor smoking...
...for now...
There've been several pushes to ban it at a state level, but thus far they haven't managed to ram it through...

Stop smoking group here has lost elections 2 times to get a city wide ban. They still want the city to adopt the ordinance even though they lost 2 elections. (Amarillo)

I SMOKED FOR 30+ YRS AND DON'T CARE IF ONE SMOKES. I CHOOSE NOT TO BUT I WILL NEVER THINK SECOND HAND SMOKE WAS A PROBLEM. ONE CAN ALWAYS MOVE. I CAN FART AT THE BAR AND THAT IS OK, WELL SOMEWHAT, SO ONE SHOULD BE ABLE TO SMOKE.

Acutally as the story goes it is a woman travleing through small towns. Out of the way places.
Good to know that if she avoids bigger cities she can smoke in her fictional bars. Thanks. I do like to make the stories acurate at times.
I appreciate the feedback and help.

The one's here that know me, know I will say what ever comes to my old head. I hope that I did not offend anyone. If I did, get over it. To me, the way I see it, we just keep loosing more and more small freedom's. Ya'll come to East Texas, stop by. If ya'll stop in the Waskom Bar, I don't think I would demand that all put their cig's out. Small town and they do as they want. Now go over to the Big City of Marshall, NO SMOKING in most places. Good to know that if she avoids bigger cities she can smoke in her fictional bars. In some cities, smoking is permissible IF 51% or more of the establishment's business is from sale of alcohol. It's not unusual to see signs outside bars with a red 51% sign.
