Crazyhorse (Mac) and I seized upon the nice weather yesterday to get the Valkyries out for a little riding time here in central TN.  During lunch we were planning our trip to Hotglue's "Gatherin 'O the Fools" next month.  We decided to break the 900 mile trip up into 2 days which means that we will unload the backpacks somewhere between Hammond and Baton Rouge.

Mac mentioned wanting to find some Crawfish Etouffee when we stop over (I had to look up how to spell Etouffee).  Fortunately I had already finished my lunch before the topic of eating Crawfish came up...and I graciously shook my head and told him I would stick with the Jambalaya (I already knew how to spell Jambalaya).

Anyway...since I drew the task of planning the trip down...if any of you folks local to the Hammond/Baton Rouge area could recommend a good Cajun Restaurant which serves Crazyhorse's Crawfish...we would greatly appreciate the recommendation.

Baton Rouge has Jones Creek Cafe, Ralph and Kacco's and Don's seafood, all of those are really good.  Hammond has a Don's but I don't think it is as good as the one in BR.  Hammond has a real good chinese place, too, called Trey Yuen, if you have a hankering for chinese.  Now of course if you want shrimp, you need to go to Cooter Brown's in Robert, they have THE BEST grilled shrimp you ever tasted.

If I think of any others I let you know.  Also, I'm sure the others here will probably post some, too.

oh, I forgot to mention, since we live in Ham-Toula (middle of Hammond and Ponchatoula), give us a call, maybe we can meet up with ya'll for dinner.  Magoo, Moonshine and Bird all live within spitting distance from us, maybe they will be able to meet up with us, too.

I think the places I mentioned would have a good etoufee, I can't even spell it, lol  I can call to make sure they have it on the menu for you though.

Right off I-55 in Hammond they have a few good hotels with a Cracker Barrell right next door, or across the street.

Don't know what back streets you are taking, but try not to go through Bogalusa.  The main drag there has a crappy road, almost wobbled my windshield off when we rode through there.  However, up around Folsom, Franklinton, Robert, you will find some nice roads with good scenery.

I don't know what your time constraints are, but if you get in touch with Warlock, he knows some AWESOME roads in Mississippi.  I don't know the highway names, they lead and I follow.  Also, there's the chicken place in Lorman, Ms that has awesome food, it was featured once on the Food Channel.

Beekeeper also mentioned Middendorf's.  It's a few miles south of us, has great food there.  I will check on the menu there as well.

Oh, and there's a real good bar-b-q joint in Livingston, not far off I-12, but you might not have time, or are interested in that.

Beekeeper's cell number is 985-320-9717.  I wish we had the house setup for guests, we'd let ya'll crash here, but we are in the middle of remodeling the kid's old rooms and it's a mess, LOL

If I think of anyplace else, I'll let you know.

We plan to take the Interstate most of the way down. We may bypass Memphis. We will be staying in the Hammond area over night. Kat and I are in the remodeling mode also so I understand how that is but thanks for the thought. Hope it works out for us to get together.

I didn't mention this place because I was not sure if they were open, they had a fire last year.  Their website says they are now open again.  I love going to Murphy's, they have great food and good service...been there plenty of times.  Check out their menu, they have crawfish etouffee, but not jambalaya

so, if ya'll do stop in Hammond, this might be the place to go  cooldude

Thanks Sugarbee, we are definitely stopping over in Hammond Thursday evening....so this place sounds good.  I noticed that they had Red Beans and Rice on the menu...that works for me!
